Can't set up ace 3

Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help as a seem to be going in circles,

Im trying to set up a new ace 3 for my son, have tried various ways but it's not working l, have set up a Google account for him and linked via family link but when I go to create family the account doesn't show

Have also tried to set up directly in the app but then asks me to login as child's Google account but then can't as it's a child account which is linked - it seems like something of massive circular reference! Has anyone managed to navigate this set up successfully!!

I FOUND THE SOLUTION

  1. Go to the app
  2. Click login via Google
  3. Click "Create Account"
  4. Create an account for your child using their real birthdate
  5. It will walk you through adding a guardian email (add your email)
  6. Then it will say "something went wrong" (LOL) BUT the email has been created.
  7. Close out of the app and sign in using your child's new email!

Honestly if you don't have your own Fitbit device and you are just creating one for your kids device it is a big waste of time.

Solution 1: if not opened - bring it back and get refund, buy other brand

Solution 2: get a friend with a Fitbit and account to add your kid (takes seconds and about 10 mins to Bluetooth connect - not sure. Why ten mins but better than not I suppose)

Solution 3: spend hours and hours going in circles and reading other comments from people who seem to follow steps of new kids gmail, creating family link and finding it in the Fitbit account - this did not work for me after hours and hours, but best of luck

Thanks all for sharing your experiences.

I did get it to work in the end but was very close to returning it (if
Harvey Norman would take it back). Through many different support people,
many videos and screenshots shared and numerous new Google accounts
created, Google for families finally worked out that:

*Fitbit only works for accounts that were originally created as a child's
account, and not for accounts that were initially created as a regular
account for adults then was later converted to a child's account.*

I think when I started this process they had already changed things in the
background as well.... Anyhow, these were the steps from Google for
families support: if you had already tried to install Fitbit and Google
accounts on the devices:

Step 1: On parent device:

1. Device settings > All apps > Fitbit.
2. Clear cache and data > Uninstall Fitbit app.
3. Reinstall Fitbit app.
4. Select Sign in w/ Google.
5. Settings > Family > Check if there is an option to set up Family.

Step 2: On child device: The child must be signed in on an Android device
with an Android OS version 9.0++.

1. Device settings > All apps > Fitbit.
2. Uninstall > Reinstall Fitbit app.
3. Select Sign in w/ Google > select or enter supervised account (must
sign in on the Fitbit app)
4. It should ask for parent permission and just follow the prompts until
completion.

THEN ALSO DO THIS

Step 1. Remove all the Google Accounts from the child's device

1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Google.
2. Tap the Google Account you want to remove.
3. Tap Remove account. If you don't see this, at the top right, tap
More (three
dots) > Remove account.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to continue removing the child's
account.

Step 2. Restart the device.

Step 3. Re-add back the child's account

1. Go to Settings.
2. Scroll down to Accounts (or Accounts & Sync).
3. Tap Add [image: Plus] > Google.
4. Tap Existing and sign in with the desired Google account.

*Step 4. After setting up the device, please proceed in opening the Fitbit
app and choose to sign in with your child's Google Account (child account
only) or Create a NEW child google account. *

*Step 5. Check the Fitbit app on parent's device for a fix.** The child's
google account should appear in the children section of the My Family
screen in the Fitbit appp now (t*his assumes that you have already added
the child's google account to your google family link app).
This was also their response to the whole matter:
*We have looked into the issue of being unable to add your child's profile
on Fitbit and were advised by our specialist that your child's existing
account doesn't work for Fitbit.*
*Fitbit only works for accounts that were originally created as a child's
account, and not for accounts that were initially created as a regular
account for adults and then was later converted to a child's account.*
*The next option would be to create a new Google account for your child and
kindly make sure to enter the correct date of birth.*
*We're saddened by the experience that you had and can definitely
understand your sentiments.*

*What we can assure you though is our customer's voice has always been
essential in the development of our products and policies, so we would also
like to take this opportunity and ask your help to send feedback directly
to our specialists. This will give us the possibility to have this feature
be available for converted supervised accounts in the future. Because we’re
always updating our products based on feedback from our users, I'll be sure
to pass this feedback along to our team. As the product develops, we’ll
update it based on what we hear from our users. *

So many steps for this! I understand some people got it to work if they
didn't migrate their fitbit accounts to google like my neighbour's kid but
since they were randomly upgrading accounts they have had to go through
this lengthy process. Hopefully, Fitbit and Google sort this out otherwise
I wouldn't recommend anyone getting any of their products for children if
it's this complicated.
Good luck to those who are still trying and wanting to throw it out the
window.

Why are you patronizing me?

My 5 year old is extremely neurodivergent and needs a sense of control. This our third “watch” bc he also wants to track steps as he is in cross country.

Once we started with a watch, his issues greatly decreased and he was able to stay at daycare longer than 2 hours a day. As a working mom, this was amazing.

I have an Apple Watch that was just recently gifted to me so I don’t need a Fitbit account?

Please go troll somewhere else besides the Fitbit forums LOL

I ended up having to add another profile to my phone for my child so I could set up his email through there.

Legit the only way we got ours to work was to NOT link our Google account to Fitbit. My spouse and I spent WAY too much time trying everything we could (instructions, YT videos, forums, etc) over multiple days then finally decided to set up a new Fitbit account with an old email WITHOUT linking to Google and worked right away.

SOO ridiculous.

Not using a Google account was fine here (Inspire2 and Ace3). Glad I didn't use any easy Google sign ins but email signups. Adding a kid to family account was not easy but eventually worked. Switching between to 2 accounts in app is since a nightmare and synching is no longer working properly running 2 watches (bluetooth re-pairing is never ending). Regretting adding it. If you can install on an old phone and put the Ace3 on there on your account and leave it in kids mode permanently.

Great shout!

(just a shame I have 3 x Ace3 devices we cannot use for our 3 children)

Thank you! This is what finally worked for me. I tried all of the crazy suggestions in other threads, but nothing worked. My son’s account was not originally created as a kids account, once I set up the new kids account it worked without any issues.

Exactly the same here too! So frustrating and little man is gutted! It'd be better getting one on the cheap! Least it'd work
