Hello there internet or whomever is searching for how to do this. I just got it to work and this is how.
Originally my 13 year ol was only 12, but I bumped her birthday forward a couple months in Family Link. I then let two days pass. On the first day I got a message from Google that my child was now 13. On the second day I got a message from Fitbit saying that my child was now 13 and can manage her own stuff. At that point on her phone the Fitbit app was giving the error message about having the wrong type of account.
To resolve this I went into Family Link and turned off supervision. I then was able to add the Fitbit Charge 6 to her account setup as normal and then go back into her phone and reenable Supervision for the Google Family stuff.
As it turns out, I did not have to remove my child from the Google Family, just the above steps.
Original post as follows:
I have on hand:
* A Fitbit Charge 6
* A 13 year-old
* A phone and Google account for said 13 year-old
* Family Link for the lot of us
When she logs into the Fitbit app we're immediately presented with a screen that says because she has Family Link it cannot and will not work. Not even ACE is an option, just a giant "go away" sign. Should I just take it back to the store or is there any possible resolution to this?
I very specifically do not want to remove her from Family Link since that will break a vast multitude of things which depend on her being in the Family such as the dozen or so Google Home devices we have, shared YouTube Premium, Google One storage, and stuff like that.

If I punt her from the family and then add her back can she still be a supervised member or do we lose that permanently?

Thanks for getting back to us and for sharing your question @mynameispaul.
You'll lose the supervision because she'll be considered as an adult family member.
