My screen is impossible to read ...dull and broken symbols...I have had it 3 years...

Outside reading is not possible....even just for time of day

I’m sorry to hear about this situation with your Alta HR. Have you already tried to restart your device?, if not you can find the steps to do it in this link How do I restart my Fitbit device?.
