Wrist worn trackers use arm movements to count the steps (as well as the footfall vibrations). There is no way to stop it counting steps when it picks up arm movement. Wrist worn trackers also miss some steps when your arm is stationary and footfall is muted (eg when you push a shopping trolly or carry something heavy). Overall they work out suprisingly accurate.
If your tracker is picking up hundreds of extra steps when you wash the dishes etc, that is too many. Check that you have the hand you are wearing it on set correctly to non dominant or dominant. If you wear it on your non dominant arm and it seems too sensitive, change the setting to dominant, but keep it on your non dominant. This mutes the sensitivity somewhat. The other thing you can try if you are getting excessive 'false' steps is a restart. Do it at least three times. Let us know how you go.

Would it make any difference if we wore our fit bits on our ankles? 😉
