Fitbit software on Mac won't launch

When I try to launch the Fitbit software on my Mac laptop (running Mojave), the circle spins and spins, but 90% of the time, the software never launches. If it does launch, it usually won't sync. If I try to sync on my iPhone, it doesn't recognize steps or exercise time.
