Inaccurate workout data

This has happened several times. I do a hard treadmill workout and it records it as elliptical and for way less time. Never been on an elliptical in my life. So frustrating! I rely on this to record WW activity points so want accuracy.

I expect you are relying on exercise auto-detection.

2 Suggestions:

  • Remove elliptical, and anything else you never do, from list of auto-recognized exercises.  On phone app, tap the exercise tile, then gear icon near top right.  It will show all exercise types that might get auto-recognized.  You can mark any, or all, to never get recognized, and the minimum time to be recognized.
  • Use the Exercise App.  I find auto-recognition less than reliable for all but walks (and I suppose runs).  Using the Exercise App, you specify what activity you are doing, and tell it when you start and stop so there is no possibility of it getting the time length wrong.  If you haven't used the Exercise App, to get started, from main clock face scroll up to 'Exercise' and tap that; then scroll up and down to find the exercise you want.  You can read more about this, including how to get the exercise types you want into the Exercise Shortcut list at How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

Thank you! I’ll give both of those suggestions a try. It’s so frustrating to get credit of only half of the work I put in.

Hi, I’m trying to use the exercise app to log my ‘workouts’ but I only have walk, run or hike as my tracking options. I don’t seem to have ‘workout’ (or many from the list Fitbit says I should have) in my log options, so I added that. My Fitbit also isn’t recognizing ‘workouts’ of 10 mins or more to add to my exercise history. How do I get it to add ‘workouts’ to the exercise app please so I can start / stop to track?

@AnneH59  Big apology.  I was thinking of the Inspire HR, and just realized this post was for the Alta HR.  Unfortunately the Exercise App that I suggested using is not available on the Alta HR.  The closest thing to it is starting exercise session from the phone app, but that has only options walk, run, hike.

But the other suggestion I made about disabling some auto-recognized options still does apply.

You could try using the Walk option starting from phone app - tap the exercise tile, then the stopwatch icon at top right - that should at least get the time right, but just be logged as walk instead of treadmill.
