how accurate is sleep?

I would like to know how accurate is the sleep recording for the Alta HR.

I bought my mom an AltaHR to track her sleep. She has dementia. When asked how she sleeps, her reply always is "I said a prayer, I closed my eyes, and I slept all night."

I discovered this was not true when she was at a convalescent center after surgery. The desk would tell me that she had slept about 2 hours. When she continued getting out of bed, they put her in a chair by the nurses station! Yet my mom would tell me that she had slept all night.

I am finding that her average sleep is 4 hours a night. Somedays, it records only 1 or 2 hours at a time. I just changed her settings to sensitive. She does nap frequently.

thanks!

Hi @Nellita23  The answer to your question is not straight foward unfortunately. My experience with sleep tracking using the Alta HR is that it is very accurate as far as I am able to judge, but not all users find this. I think a lot depends on the person wearing it (differences in blood vessels and differences in movements during sleep), but on the whole I would say they are pretty accurate, but not as accurate as a sleep study would be. If your mums Alta HR says she is getting 4 hours of sleep and the staff as the care facility say much the same then I think it is probably pretty close.

I was finding the sleep tracking very accurate and then all of a sudden it started not tracking the first hour or two. I would fall asleep shortly after turning off the TV but the tracker was waiting a couple of house. Not sure what's up  but came her to see if I could find out

I have the Alta HR and have gone through every possible link on the app.  I've wasted well over two hours trying to find the link to change to sensitive and it's nowhere to be found.   The help replies are worthless.   Frustrating

Hi @Kaskalm55  The change from normal to sensitive sleep is only useful for trackers without a heart rate sensor as you wont get sleep stages if you switch to sensitive. I believe the place to set sleep sensitivity if you still want to tryit, is in the website dashboard, not the app.
