Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

MChaseOrtiz, I have synced using the approach you describe, but for me it's not reliable. It will sync sometimes and not other times. I'm able to sync every time by rebooting my One in the dongle, it's just a little inconvenient. After syncing this way, the connections seems to last 20 minutes or so, then drops.

Sure. I sometimes have to bounce a few times between starting a sync in the fitbit app and re-pairing the One but it always works. I only do this once a day before I go to bed. Too much of a PITA to repeat. It definitely loses the connection after 10 to 20 mins as you say.

I wonder if fitbit will have these same issues with iOS12 LOL? They seem to have been asleep at the wheel where Pie is concerned.

Hopefully there is a fix soon?  I've read that Fitbit only holds stats for 30 days, which will be Sept. 7-8 for most of us.

Been off the forum for few weeks but being using Pie since DP4. Works perfectly on my Pixel 2 XL and before on my Pixel.

Fitbit needs to just fix this so that the sync process is seamless as per expectations when we purchased our gadgets!

Thank you for continuing to acknowledge this thread. At this point it seems appropriate to provide more information to your customers. For example what is the priority of this issue? Have Fitbit developers reproduce the issue on Android 9.0? Is there an estimated time frame to close this issue and release a patch?

I appreciate you "escalating all info to the team", but you have not acknowledged whether Fitbit is taking responsibility for the bug or whether developers are actively working on a fix.

I'm an embedded software developer myself and I understand the complexity of maintaining hardware/software interfaces for deployed products. Bugs happen, but transparency is important.

I work a few blocks from Fitbit headquarters in SF and I'm feeling inclined to stop a fitbit employee to inquire (I see them every week in SOMA/FiDi).

I've been having this issue since upgrading my pixel 2XL to Pie.  Interestingly, I had a streak of three days or so where it was syncing as normal, and then the reliability slowly trailed off until it was back to zero syncing.

I've tried clearing app cache, pairing, removing all Pie restrictions on battery and data for the Fitbit app etc.

But the fact that functionality has been in and out makes me think that the Pie optimization learning AI might be intermittently blocking the sync.

Thanks

Ditto - I've reset my One a bunch of times.  It connects via BT then gets lost.  This all happened immediately following Pixel update.

I realized that when I updated to Pie I factory reset my Pixel 2 XL. My Ionic works as it should be (except unknown caller bug but this seems another issue) but I can't say the reason is because of the factory reset.

If you have one hour to spare you might want to try.

How about an update on the progress of the bug?  Getting a little ridiculous, and people are getting impatient.  I for one am very dissatisfied with the progress or lack thereof.

A factory reset ? That can be quite painful. I'll stick with my manual work around.

The Thread is Android 9.0 (Pie) not able to sync however, my issue might be related so I am posting here instead of starting a new thread.

I have Pixel 1, Android 9.0 and FitBit Charge 2 and the synching  of data for HR, Calories and Impact  are ok but Speed and Map are WAY off.

Since about my Pixel update Fitbit Map shows me Biking on water and leaping above trees on my hikes.. See attached.

I have tried all the resets and connect-reconnect bluetooth, I have been an app user for 3 years and I am pretty  familiar with all the setting on the app and the Pixel.

Please pass on to developers to see if it is due to the synch issue.

thx.

I have the same issue as well when it comes to running outdoors. The Fitbit app no longer tracks my path. It tracks it as a straight line.

Also I've lost my caller ID.

This issue and the other recent broken sync one, "App 2.76.1: steps/calories revert to zero, no live HR (Fitbit Community Subscription Update)", for which the thread passed the century mark several times over, are honestly appalling. I don't have another word for it.

If this issue isn't fixed in the next 48hrs, I'm returning my and my wife's Alta HRs to Costco forthwith. They were purchased more than 6 months ago, but at least Costco will take the return and issue a full refund in a situation like this; they will stand behind their customers, even when their suppliers (Fitbit) won't. I'm also recommending to Costco corporate that they pull all product from their shelves pending resolution of these outstanding issues, and whatever additional investigation they'd want to conduct.

I like Fitbit and their simpler trackers (would never own an Ionic or Versa), and overall enjoyed the years I've spent using them..... they helped me recover from a life changing injury. But they are definitely going down the wrong path lately, which is why the company is struggling to stay afloat. I really hope they can turn things around before it's too late.......although at this stage it looks like a buyout is going to be the only thing to save them 😞

I'm glad to find out I'm not going crazy.  I have a One and noticed this behavior once I upgraded to Pie.  I even got a new phone during this time but it has Pie as well so I continue to see the same behavior others have described.  I can get the One to sync for a bit if I force restart it, but I've to figure out when it stops working.

I was sent the Fitbit Dongle and have been using it for the last three weeks or so and it has completely solved the Sync problems I was having on both my Mac and my Android. I have to say the Fitbit generally has revolutionised my life. I now make sure I do my 10,000 steps as a minimum, and I go to the gym 5 days a week instead of two, and I feel much better as result! The gym knocks off 6,000 steps at a go!! it is just such a pity about the Sync problems because the idea is excellent, but as I said I am now happy (and fitter!).

There was a Fitbit app update last night, and now not even the work around works for me. Using a first gen Fitbit Flex and a Pixel 2 XL on Android Pie.

I have a pixel 1 with a Fitbit One device. I've been experiencing the sync issue since Android Pie was pushed to me three weeks ago. I got another Android Pie update last night that seems to have fixed the issue. It makes sense to me, that the issue is Android related since the blue tooth connection isn't/wasn't being made or retained. Curious whether anyone else has gotten the Pie update and whether it helped.
