Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I have an essential phone with the new Pie update, it did not fix the syncing problem. I have to use an old android phone with an outdated app to sync properly. I am using an original fitbit flex

Can you explain what you mean by reset everything? What did you reset?
Best Answer
Removed the device from my app. cleared all storage and cache of the app. Rebooted the phone. Logged in fresh to the app. Reset the device. Re-added the device to the app. First sync went through fine. and about 15 minutes later, still syncing okay. But this above method never worked before, only until I got the new fitbit app update this morning.

My question is why has this not been fixed yet? It is a problem with
multiple tracker types, has been going on for several weeks now and the
best we have from Fitbit is "no update but trust us it is important lolz"
That's really not acceptable.

I tried that with no success unfortunately

anything...

WTH Fitbit! Your latest firmware update yesterday did not fix the issue and completely borked the workaround. Now, there is no way to get it to sync, annoying workaround or not! This is a complete **ahem** show.

I just downloaded the fitbit app for windows and am syncing through my PC since there doesn't seem to be any end in sight to this problem.

Yep, the latest app update to v2.78 has killed the workaround for me as
well. I was pretty consistently getting it to sync if I started a sync,
went to bluetooth settings and attempted to pair with the device during the
sync. Now that's over.

This is the sixth email that I've gotten from you, encouraging me to be
patient.
I have been patient -- for more than 3 weeks now.
I think the only question the hundreds of people on this chain have is --
when the heck is this going to be fixed?

Latest update killed the Bluetooth workaround for me as well. At least that worked.

Now, to get it to work, I plug it into the dongle, turn it off by holding it for about 10 seconds, take it out of the dongle, turn it on, then it syncs.

I use a power bank for the dongle so I can easily carry it with me.

A weird fix that has been working for me today at least is that if I can sync it to another device (my laptop through the windows Fitbit app) then it will also sync to my phone again for a little while.  No idea how to explain that. But last night's update broke the work around of going into Bluetooth menu for me too.

What a mess. My workaround now also broken.

Come on fitbit, this is turning into an embarrassing farce. Asleep at the wheel with a major OS update and no fix in weeks.

I still can't sync. I have removed the AP. Tried to use the Bluetooth settings on the phone. It still not syncing. Did I miss something or am I still waiting?

Using Pixel on Pie and running Fitbit 2.78 and my old Flex won't pair, and therefore won't sync. Syncs ok to PC with USB dongle. This happened when I upgraded to Pie. 😞   Still waiting for fix.  Any forecast on a patch/new version?

This is beyond ridiculous. The latest update made it so I can't sync at all. Reallllllllly cool Fitbit, NOT.

@AlessFitbit

What is the latest update?  I am.on 2.78 and can't sync. Please fix this. My fit Bit won't even connect via Bluetooth, yet alone through the app. I have done a lot of steps for which I will not get credit for doing.

Any updates? This bug has made my tracker nearly useless as I can't view my steps at a glance without spending minutes trying to fiddle with the Bluetooth settings to manually sync the tracker. I use a Fitbit one because it can be worn discretley so can't view the steps easily.

So far the only thing that has worked consistently for me (Fitbit One, 1st Gen Pixel running Pie) is to restart the One using these steps - https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186 and then sync'ing from the app. It works for a few minutes after that and then stops working again. So I am now doing it once a day so at least the data goes up to the cloud. The upgrade to 2.78 didn't help.

Other than that, I am seriously getting tired of vacant and vague promises of this being high priority for Fitbit and everyone working diligently to find a solution. Android Pie was in Beta for a long time before it was released - so it wasn't as if Fitbit didn't get enough time to test with the new OS.

I suspect that due to the slow rollout of Android Pie, this is not really high priority for Fitbit since a majority of their customers have not yet hit this issue.

So I have resorted to sending a link to this page to the tip lines of various tech blogs to get more media visibility. So far, Android Authority and Android Community have published this story. I would encourage you all to do the same with as many tech blogs as you can.

Hopefully the coverage, along with the impending Charge 3 release, will bump up the priority of this for Fitbit.
