Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all your reports and patience with these Android 9.0 syncing difficulties. We’re aware of this ongoing issue and have been working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track as soon as possible.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

No. They never fixed it.

I am on version 2.79 and I STILL CANNOT SYNC my Fitbit Flex with my Pixel on 9Pie without resetting it every day.  This is extremely frustrating! When are you going to release a patch?

Best Answer

I have had the issues described here since updating to Android 9 on my Pixel 2 XL (but let's be real, Fitbit sync has always sucked with Android). Device is the Fitbit Versa.

Just want to throw my hat in here - it is quickly becoming clear (after perusing support thread after thread with the same issues being described) that Fitbit's Android team is not taking this issue as seriously as it should be. My fiancé and I have been loyal Fitbit users for years. We won't be buying another Fitbit unless the Android sync issues are fixed. Regretfully, we have no reason to believe they will be after suffering through them for so long.

Right when all this started, I had just pre-ordered a Charge 3 to replace my Zip (which is not a favorite.) I think it looks good, though I am not fond of wrist items. I loved the One (I killed two of them by accident, I'd still buy another), but since the One was discontinued, I have not been a real fan. Add to it the tech issues, and now I am second guessing the new purchase.

Lanuza,

This is a big enough problem that should be worked over weekends. The dev team should be doing nothing but solving this problem as it's only getting bigger as different phone models continue to be upgraded to Android Pie.

Your response and the updates lead me to believe that it's a casual effort to solve.

Again was unable to sync my Fitbit One using my Pixel 2 running stock Android Pie.  Started up my Nexus 5X runing stock Oreo and it synced right away.  Same version of Fitbit software on both phones with same settings.

I highly suggest downgrading to 2.74.2 July 11 edition of the Fitbit app. I went on a work trip for the last 5 days and have easy syncs all trip long with no hacks needed.

The Google app store only has the latest version. Where can I find an
earlier version?
Best Answer

@k3rning how do you downgrade?

Best Answer

@LanuzaFitbit I don't have any faith that this is getting fixed, because this has apparently been going on for months and Fitbit doesn't care enough to prioritize it for the thousands of customers it is affecting. Unless it magically starts working, I'm unfortunately going to return it to the store on my next day off this week. I hate to do it, because I REALLY like the size and specs of the Versa, but despite what Fitbit says, the app is apparently not compatible with my phone (Pixel, Android 9). 😞

You can find the APK from APKMirror that is very reputable and trusty

Altough I would suggest to spend some time and factory reset your Android. Both my wife with Pixel and Versa and myself with Pixel 2XL don't have any problem.

I have downloaded the older version and set to install from unknown sources and I keep getting "not installed" when running the install.

Since it is clear that Fitbit cannot be trusted to actually prioritize and solve this issue, can someone please post the step by step for downgrading? Can you do this on a Mac?

I uninstalled the previous version which allowed me to install the older version and I continue to have issues.

I reverted my Google Pixel 2 running Android Pie back to version 2.74.2 of the Fitbit app and it syncs now.  Well, it synced until I connected my phone to any other USB device like earphones or car and because after that it no longer syncs.

So I updated back to version 2.79 and will sync with my Android Oreo phone when needed.

Okay, I hear you that feedback is getting to the team, but I would like to hear from the team too ! What's happening ? I am baffled as to how this is not a priority to FitBit yet!

Add me to the list.  I have a FitBit One and it has always synced just fine with both of my Google phones until the latest update from Google.  I've uninstalled it, reinstalled, restarted my phone etc.  Nothing.
