Fitbit Update: 3/6/19
Hello everyone!
We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.
First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.
Then, disable battery limitations:
Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Hey Everyone!
Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).
For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here.
We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.
I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.
Fitbit Update: 9/10/18
Hi, everybody!
Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.
When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.
Fitbit Update: 8/19/18
We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.
Thanks for your patience!
Fitbit Update: 8/11/18
Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums.
Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.
In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

@DeppJones Come to think of it I haven't seen a single notification since syncing appeared to get back to full. Mostly I ignored the notifications which might be why I didn't notice. I only have a couple notifications turned on and have the access to notifications on the phone disabled for the app. FitBit doesn't need the level of access to my phone and data that it wants and I'm not interested in having an app on my phone cause my wrist device to vibrate to tell me I've got a text or a call. Allowing that gives the app permission to read and respond and look through your contact data from what I can tell and...no, just not allowing that.

Pie beta has been out since July. I think Fitbit needs to be a more proactive instead of reactive especially since they knew Pie was being released a few months later.

LG G6 v8.0, Charge 2 and Ionic work fine (@70% of the time, anyway).
New Pixel 3XL 9.0, Charge 2 does not alert me, Ionic does (calls, text, email, calendar).
Just throwing my hat in the ring here. Been frustrated with the on again, off again of getting notifications on my Ionic since I purchased the darn thing. It's the only time I look at my friend's Apple Watch and am jealous.

Before throwing that hat, just a question for the community's sake :
Does fitbit about background service not running when clicking on sync in the app??
10-25-2018 12:41
10-25-2018 12:41
Based on my observation of the behavior, I think it's more likely that the background service is deadlocking or hanging without a timeout.

10-25-2018 12:52
Not sure I understand what you mean. When I click sync for the Charge 2 it does sync without errors.
What should I look for?

Sorry, I was wrong. What I wanted to ask is that when you turn the notifications on in Fitbit app, you get an error message or not. It has nothing to do with sync.
Other question is if you tried to turn on Keep Alive widget?
10-25-2018 13:04
10-25-2018 13:04
No error message. Sync is fine and it shows me the correct steps.
Keep Alive is on, makes no difference.

Thank you. Just wanted to exactly see if it doesn't work, partially works or unreliably works.

Or Pie kills background for some reason, or some Android API silently changed its behavior and doesn't send an event in its previous form, or sends events in a different order than previously did. Dont forget that it works in Oreo and earlier correctly. Other nice "who is the faulty" issue.

It never worked reliably in Oreo either. I frequently had to toggle Airplane Mode even in Oreo to get sync to work. It just got worse in Pie, but it never did work properly.

Same behavior that I experience with One and Pixel XL

It is clear. I have it turned on and seems to work properly on Pie, but TBH I never trusted on this feature, só I don't know how well it worked / works.

My wife's versa has not been able to sync since 10/23. I followed the recommendations to use the forced notification but still no luck after rebooting both devices.
If only Google released beta software ahead of time, Fitbit might have been able to catch this issue earlier.... Oh wait, they do. smh

I have a Google Pixel and a Fitbit Alta HR. I worked with a Fitbit "Chat" person yesterday and we went through all the trouble shooting procedures and my Alta HR finally connected & updated. That lasted over night and now it won't stay "paired" without me having to do a number of reboots, disabling Bluetooth, uninstalling the Fitbit app and other suggested "fixes". While the new Fitbit app version may have resolved the issue for them, my issue seems to be ongoing with sporadic connection and syncing abilities. I have spent several hours trying supposed fixes and am hoping for a final fix soon. I get reward incentives through my employer, but my Fitbit HAS to sync with their app within a few days or I miss out on those rewards because I really do NOT have the time to verify the app on my phone is updated everyday. Frustrating!

Hi there,
No my device is a Nokia 7plus, which is not a compatible device, but I hadn't experience any issues before updated to Android 9. I also tried doing all the recommended steps, in your link but none of it work.
