Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

Thank you. This worked for my Nokia 6.1, even without reinstalling the app. I just cleared the Bluetooth cache and cleared Bluetooth storage (yes both) as described and restarted. After restarting the app updated immediately.  Seems to me more an Android P9 issue rather than Fitbit. I didn't change the Fitbit app.

Hi there, I stated a thread 3 days ago and have not gotten a response. I did reset the cache for the blue tooth as well as app and wifi data... Still didn't work. 😞

My OnePlus 6 has not synced since update to Android Pie (more than a month ago) however .... after force shutdown Fitbit app and remove Ionic from Bluetooth settings and restarting Fitbit app (without adding Ionic manually in Blutooth settings) syncing actually works!!! 😁

Hello everyone!

Thanks for sharing your feedback on the situation. Unfortunately there haven't been any updates so far.

As a general reminder, you can try to follow the steps listed in this help article to try and get it to sync. If that doesn't work, you can go into your phone's Bluetooth settings and look for your Fitbit. There remove your Fitbit from the list of paired devices and then run the set up process as if it was a brand new device.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

@LanuzaFitbit  I'm not sure why I'm bothering, but I've asked before and I'll ask again: WHAT DOES NO UPDATES MEAN? What has been done? Is the problem recreated yet in a lab? Is there a specific issue Google's looking at? Is there a bug report open with Google that can be referenced?

"No updates" at this point seems to be code for "we're hoping you'll stop asking." If there have TRULY been 3 months of this issue with no updates, it means that no-one's tried. Even an update of "We just can't get this to happen in the lab" is an update. We've never even gotten confirmation of that.

As much as I like my FitBit because I can wear it all day (rather than, say, carrying my phone around all day), I think I have finally come to the conclusion (as have many other people here) that the company just doesn't care about this issue. Maybe that's because the remaining devices affected are old, and they want us to buy new ones, but there's frankly no way I'm considering a replacement FitBit at this point until and unless there's actually 1) a fix and 2) some real communication.

@LanuzaFitbit we seriously need to know if this problem will ever be fixed.  These aren't old devices.  I use a FitBit Zip on a Pixel 2 XL.

I find it that on the top of your website today is this message:

We are aware of issues with uploading profile and cover photos on Fitbit.com and the mobile app. Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this. Read more

I'd bet a dozen donuts that FitBit will have this profile cover photo issue resolved before they get their devices working with Android 9.  There needs to be some acknowledgement by FitBit as to whether they intend to fix this problem or not.  The number of Android 9 users is growing daily.  If the company only wants to support iPhones then they should at least tell us.

How can this problem be escalated?  What can we do to get FitBit's attention on this matter?

My One does not show up as a paired device (and never has) so I'm unsure how to go about finding it in my settings and removing it. I've deleted it and re-added it in the past but it didn't work. Is the suggestion that it will work now if I do?

This solution doesn't work for One devices, since they don't establish a permanent bluethooth connection. Have you tried doing a device reset on your One ? Open the app on your phone. Plug your One into the dongle. Press and hold the selection button on the front of the one, for 20 seconds. Press the selection button again. It should show the firmware on the One. Your phone app should sync. If not, swipe down from the top. I sometimes get a message saying that a sync has been scheduled, but it usually syncs immediately. If this doesn't work, re-start your phone and try again.

This is the only way I can get my One to sync, but it only lasts for about an hour.

@MikeKC that's the only way I've been able to get it to sync for some months now. This is made doubly infuriating as I don't own a computer

@JessamineT that does suck. I'm able to get my one to sync without a computer occasionally by opening the app on my phone. Go to settings/connected devices/pair new device .. Wait for your One to be displayed. Clock in it.. Then go back to the app and swip down. It's not a sure thing, but it syncs every other time i that ii try this

. Good luck.

The steps in the process article do not work on the my pixel one. On my OG
pixel, it will sync once or twice, then not again until I repeat the
process. This is crazy to not update the Fitbit app to work on all devices.

I just got my Fitbit guide in an email. I do not see the Fitbit One listed.  How many of you will be buying another Fitbit?

Are you saying that is unacceptable that a company is no longer selling a product launched 6 years ago (since September 17th, 2012 to be precise)?

To be fair fitbit's not the only company struggling to get their app to work on Android Pie. It's not as easy as you'd think getting an app to work properly on a brand new operating system on a ton of different phones all running slightly modified versions of Pie.

And to be honest Fitbit has struggled with making a good working app for Android for a long time now. But they will get it fixed 😉

I'm just syncing my surge to my backup phone for now and waiting till they get Pie figured out before I install the app on my new phone running Pie 😉
