Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

(Pixel 2 XL running Android Pie (November 5th security update), Fitbit One running firmware version 6.64, Fitbit Android app version 2.83)

Since the 2.83 update to the Fitbit Android app, I have been manually syncing my One--once in the morning, and once at night--with no problems whatsoever...

...until yesterday.

Suddenly, my One wouldn't sync. I was getting "tracker not found" errors in the Fitbit Android app. After trying to manually sync maybe six times in a row, it finally did sync. It then showed that My One's battery level was low.

But I had fully charged it the day before.

So I manually restarted my One (the usual "hold the button and plug it in its charging cradle" dance) and the battery level showed more than the initially-displayed 10%, but still less than 50%. So I let it charge fully. After doing this, it would sync perfectly...

...until the next morning.

Same symptoms, (wouldn't sync--I gave up trying this time--and the One's battery was very low, though not as low as it was after restarting the One). Was able to get it to sync first time after restarting and recharging.

After months of trying to understand what's going on, and trying to troubleshoot things as a possible way of helping Fitbit's dev team, I'm tired of this. I ran an 8k yesterday, and I was really hoping my One would track my performance. It did, but at this point I have zero faith in it, and I just don't want to do this anymore.

My nephew also ran the race, and he showed me his Garmin Fenix. While that one's a bit too expensive for me, Garmin has a wide variety of trackers, and their Android app looks like it's well-liked, and seems to be regularly maintained and updated.

I'm jumping ship to Garmin.

Yes, I understand that my One's days are numbered, and that the nonstandard, not-quite-bluetooth way its sync was designed is inherently very sensitive to changes in Android, and changes to the Fitbit Android app itself. Yes, I understand that I could find a Fitbit model with a more industry-standard, Bluetooth-based approach to syncing that is comparable to the Garmin I'll be buying. Yes, I understand that some folks have had better luck syncing their non-One Fitbit trackers on Android.

But you know what? I no longer have any faith whatsoever in Fitbit as a company. I have one of their scales, and when the day comes that it stops working, I will not even look at a Fitbit product to replace it.

After six years, and more than 15,000,000 steps, 18,000 floors, and 7,000 miles, I'm done.

Fitbit, you broke my heart.

I'm right there with you, and then some. 32 million steps, 43,000 floors,
15,000 miles, and utterly disgusted with Fitbit's handling of this fiasco.
I haven't settled on a replacement yet but am trying out the Withings
ecosystem right now, but also exploring options for centralizing on Google
Fit.

As you Lanuza admit, fault is purely yours - Fitbits. I would like to return these 2 Charge 3's at full refund. Please advice where to send.

I replaced my charge 2 with a new Versa and it is working perfectly with my Pixel XL phone.  My charge 2 was working fine recently before I upgraded last Tuesday November 27.

As a last attempt, I'm gonna factory reset both my Versa and my phone
(Nokia 7.1 US) when I get home today.

This is incredibly disappointing.  Unreal.

No "official" updates for what now, 2 months? Yesterday my battery went dead (since it never tells me on my phone anymore) and though I could charge it at work, I could not sync until I got home to my laptop, so the time was off by 2 hours.  Not only do I not have a Fitbit anymore, I didn't even have a dang watch.

This. Is. Unacceptable.

And my Facebook feed is full of ads for  Fitbit (presumably because I keep googling it hoping for a fix) and you're bragging to all these unsuspecting people at Christmastime about how well it works - and it's all lies.  Come Dec. 26, I hope you have your customer service lines fully staffed - because you're setting yourself up for a big ol' mess if this isn't resolved by then.

As for me, I'm not asking for a new Fitbit this year, even though I've had my eye on the waterproof ones. I joined Fitbit in 2013. I've walked the length of the Sahara Desert, and that was 2 years ago.

But if this isn't fixed, I'm done.

If there are no updates, that's fine.  But is the issue being actively worked?

No syncs for my Charge 2 since my Nokia 7.1 updated to Pie last week.

Do any fitbit devices sync with Pie?

Best Answer

I can be added to the list of people not being able to sync. Replaced my LG G3 (Android 6.0) with a LG G7 One with Android Pie and couldn't sync my Charge HR.

Tried to pair it again with the LG G3 and it seems I can't even pair it again ever since trying to sync and then pair with the LG G7.

There is some kind of connection able to be done on both phones as it will ask for the number I see on the Charge HR but doesn't go further.

App is on the latest version.

Edit: This has promped me to get the dongle out and try the Windows app, it's different but works, I guess I'll using it for sync for a while, but I'm not around the computer most of the day.

It's just not android 9.0 that's a problem

I'm using a oppo r15 running 8.1.1 cannot sync  whatever I've tried since mid November.  Just bought new fitbit scales early November.

Can we get the earlier app versiond to work? If we side load them?  If so what versions are working with sync.

Just wanted to come around one last time to say goodbye. I'm unsubscribing from this thread, though I'm keeping my forum account on the off chance that my Fitbit scale requires me to dig into things here.

It turns out Santa was very generous (and stopped by early!) and now a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus is gracing my wrist. I'm still getting the hang of it, but I think things will work out fine. Interestingly, the biggest change for me is getting used to wearing a wristwatch again after years of looking at my phone for the time, and a certain clip-on fitness tracker for my exercise data.

To the folks on this thread struggling to get their trackers syncing, I wish you all the best, and hope that things work out for you in the way that you find best.

To our long-suffering moderators, thank you for doing what you do. Situations like this make your job a thankless one, and it's clear you've done what you can, within the limits that have been imposed on you by your employer.

To Fitbit, Inc., I hope you can get your act together.

In the event this follow-up post helps anyone, I'll throw this out there (and highlight my unique scenario) - but TL;DR = Bluetooth sync is still not working for me.

I do not fit the marketing profile trend of the industry - I have zero desire to wear a watch again, so after my One died and was discontinued, the only option on the market is the FitBit Zip. And it worked fine until I updated my Google Pixel (1) to Pie. Since then, zero Bluetooth sync.

Having recently upgraded my desktop from Windows 7 to 10 (finally), and installing from the Windows Store the FitBit app - the USB dongle that came with the Zip is the only way that my steps are synced to my account from the device. I call out the difference between OS Versions because I was relying on the USB dongle to sync, but over time I found that it was not 100% reliable over the past several months that this has been an issue. So far so good with the 64 bit app form the Windows store (I just have to have the Zip in close enough proximity to the USB dongle on my desktop) - but being less than 2 weeks in after the OS upgrade & installation of the Windows 10 compatible app, I'm not confident enough to proclaim that this solution is going to be bullet-proof.

I have given up on the prospect of the Bluetooth sync being repaired - if it was a genuine priority, it would have been resolved in under 2 months. I know not everyone has my specific set-up, so I realize it may well not be applicable to many folks. Given I refuse to wear a watch device, and that the market has moved away from discreet clip-on trackers, I will ride this out as long as the USB syncing will work and then ditch the idea of a fitness tracker altogether.

Sadly it doesn't seem like much progress is being made. As a longtime futbit customer I hate to jump ship, but it seems it's time.

Starting research now on other devices. Sad.

Best Answer

Since the Versa is still in our family, I'm giving this a little more time.

Just so you know, there are also reports of Pie issues with other brands. I've done some research myself, apparently the Bluetooth Low Energy implementation in the latest version of Android is not working very well.

Sad thing is my Pebble Time still works better under Pie and I never miss a notification.

Please fix the app.

I am using Fitbit Surge which I was planning to replace with Fitbit Ionic.

I am not so sure now. Seriously considering a Garmin Forerunner.

Probably going to get a Garmin (and hope it doesn't have the same sync problems with pie!) but really really want to stay with Fitbit.

Do the newer devices still have this problem, or do all of them?  I have a Charge 2 now and was going to get myself a Versa this month, but that's now on hold of course.

There are plenty of threads on Pie (9.0) troubles.

When is Fitbit itself coming with a official statement on what is happening ?

Thousands of unhappy customers and most of all due to lack of communication on what's happening, what's being done, .... Zip, Nada !

So please, inform us ....

Been about 4 weeks and my Nokia 6.1 with Android Pie is mostly synching with my Fitbit Charge 2 HR.  I periodically get "tracker not found" but usually within 24 hours it will synch. I can't identify anything I do to make it start synching consistently.  Restarting my phone a couple of times sometimes works. I just wish it would synch when I want it too and keep current.
