Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

@ChelleMToo Hello, so far, I had to open my application every time to get it to sync. And the last sync time was the last time I opened the app so.. So far it is not learning or there is no indication that it does.. But I will keep on doing it to see if the behavior changes. If you don't open the app, I don't think your data is synced with the fitbit servers so I recommend you open your app for now.. Perhaps this helps the AI learn..

@Bradk1749 same with mine

The problem is my tracker is it needs to be replaced at this point. I've tried everything with the help of support.  I was told to call them back today...

My Solution (Phone: One Plus 5T/Fitbit: Charge 2)

I turned off the adaptive battery as other comments have said but it still didn't work.

1.) Go into the phone's Bluetooth settings.

2.) Go to my Charge 2 Devise. - FORGET -

3.) - Pair New Device -  repair the charge 2 by blue tooth.

4.) Reset the Fit bit, restart the phone.

It now syncs for me.

I have the keep-alive widget OFF

I was able to turn the Adaptive battery back on and still have successful syncs.

@tessierp Ah.  See, mine is syncing in the background right now, AND I'm getting my texts and other notifications.  But, it won't last.  After a day or so of success, JUST when I start thinking I'm ok, it stops.  Then I can't even sync in the app itself, I have to go to Adaptive Battery, turn it off, turn it off again, maybe once more, then restart the whole phone.  Then my notifications come back LOL.

It's kinda like a ritual now.  Maybe I'll put it to music. 🙂

Let me know if your AI learns to love Fitbit LOL.

Thanks for all your help!  Yours was still the only solution that worked for me.

Michelle

<edit> I wonder if it might have something to do with the battery in my phone getting low, and triggering the Adaptive Battery?  Maybe that's when I lose the background sync?  Just thinking out loud now.

I'm still on vacation now so I have not been using my phone that much and have yet to go back to the gym so.. Next week I'll see how it works out for me and if the AI actually learns my usual "activity" pattern. Then I'll see if Fitbit learns to love the AI and vice versa :).

It is a good point you are raising. Could low battery influence Adaptive Battery. Its main task is to give more resources to those apps that require it the most depending on usage but... It could be that, when the battery is low, it adapts to that situation and gives less resources.

Hopefully fixes start rolling out to deal with those annoying problems.

Well mine is now working. OnePlus released an update for Pie on the OP5 which bumps the Oxygen OS version to 9.0.1

Nothing in the changes log related to Bluetooth or Fitbit that I can see and my Charge HR didn't sync straight after the upgrade.

However when I tried the following steps which I have done before (and didn't work) it is now syncing.

Disabled adaptive battery

Battery optimisation off for Fitbit app

Removed Fitbit from Bluetooth devices and re add

The only thing I did different this time was to enable a disabled silent alarm.

What I noticed immediately after the Android update was that it was taking longer to fail the sync - previously less than 2 seconds, now more than 10.

Thanks for the update. I have not received 9.0.1, but I can sync manually and my watch is paired with 9.0.0

How the hell is this still an issue after months of not-working? Do the users have to continue to find work-arounds for this bs? 🙈

Well this just started last week with on my Pixel 3.  It has been flawless until now.

I have a replacement coming, as they decided bluetooth is failing in my Versa.

First started last week, when i was asleep it would stop syncing, the time would be off 20 minutes or so, and a force stop of the app and restart would fix it.  This would last until I went to bed again.

Yesterday morning I could not get it to sync, it would not see the Versa no matter what I did.  That is when I called in.  Last night i saw this thread and began reading up.  I uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, and out of no where it was seeing the Versa again. I went to change the clock face and it constantly disconnected and would not change the face.  Finally got one to work out of 10 or so tries.

I turned off the adaptive battery right away, and it was working flawlessly.....for 2 hours.  Now its back to it can not sync, nothing I can do it force it to connect.

This is unfortunately the result of Android 9.0 and the new technologies it brings. I'm guessing many other applications have similar issues. It is frustrating but, it takes time to fix stuff at times. Not to mention that each companies could be impacted differently depending on how they build their own version of Android (i.e. OxygenOS, etc)

Seems like the AI is starting to learn my Fitbit pattern and syncs now. Has to be that because I haven't done anything else other than manually requests syncs.

This is not an Android 9 issue, this is a Fitbit issue running on Android 9.

Using the 'Bluetooth Pair' app from the Google Play Store I managed to get my FitBit Charge 3 working on my OnePlus 5T again running the latest Android 9.0.1. Thanks a lot to this forum and MrPuma on page 68 in particular!!!

I was able to re-pair and sync my Charge 3 after waiting forever after entering my 4 number pairing code and not giving up early, maybe this could work for some of you guys, too

My phone got updated to Android P yesterday and I just realized that my Charger 2 was not able to sync.

Tried several methods and non of them work. Now, even I can't add my Charger 2 back to connect with the phone 😞
