Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

Thanks for all your reports and patience with these Android 9.0 syncing difficulties. We’re aware of this ongoing issue and have been working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track as soon as possible.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

Possible workaround/fix!

After many attempts to reconnect my Charge 2 to my Xiaomi A2 Lite (Android 9), I installed the Fitbit app on my wife's Moto G5 (android 8.1), and logged in. Then, after a couple of attempts and turning on airplane mode and off again on the Moto I got it to connect and sync. So the Charge 2 is definitely still working correctly.

Then I wend back to my Xiaomi phone and started the Fitbit app, and it magically seemed to have found and connected to my charge 2 without actually having to add it. It now seem to work and sync on my phone.

So for those of you with the similar android 9 upgrade problem, see if you can borrow a older android phone and try to connect using that first, then go back to your android 9 device.

I just had a update of OnePlus software.

So far so good, Oneplus 6, Ionic, synching and working, the first time since Pie was installed (4 months I think). Happy to have it working but not thanks to Fitbit Customer Services ...

After forgetting my Fitbit in the Bluetooth settings, and rebooting a time or three, I noticed the solution to this article: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Bluetooth-won-t-connect/m-p/1061378#M20681

So I went back into the Fitbit app and it synced properly (it wasn't before).

Hopefully this helps someone else...

Thanks @DIYFiddler
I got it also working - but with help of my PC.
Here is what I did:

1. Install Fitbit App from Windows Store (I am using Windows 10 Version 1809)
2. Sync Fitbit Tracker
3. Set PC into Flight mode or turn off PC
4. Turn on Flight mode on Android phone
5. Wait some minutes and make some steps
6. Turn on Wireless LAN on the phone (while still in Flight mode)
7. Wait a little - I see the synced stats without newest steps, this has been done via PC and synced via fitbit.com
8. Turn off flight mode
9. The tracker will connect and sync out of the sudden

This is what worked for me
Hope this helps other people, too

Nope.  Tried everything.  It’s not syncing yet.  Samsung G4 and Versa.  Extremely frustrated.  Do you have a customer support phone number?

I got a Blaze for christmas and haven't had any issues synching it with my Android 9 LG G7 One (which is a base android with no editing from LG), and while my old Charge HR's sync only worked through the Windows 10 app as it didn't work since upgrading phones to the G7 and then upgrading the G7 to Android 9, the Blaze works flawlessly.

The one thing that I did see with the Blaze which I think is why it has no issues synching with Android 9 is that there's an option to use "classic bluetooth" which isn't activated. Might this be what's going on with the older devices? My old Charge HR had to go through bluetooth, but my Blaze doesn't seen to have been registered in the bluetooth devices of my cellphone and the Blaze has no issues at all, while the Charge HR just can't sync with Android 9.

My Nokia 8 updated to Android 9 so I was introduced to this problem as well. Fitbit Versa stopped syncing and after resetting and reinstalling everything I can think of, setting up the device fails as well.

I followed these steps to solve the issue:

  1. Abandon Fitbit
  2. Fetch Pebble Time from the closet
  3. Install Rebble on it
  4. Enjoy a smartwatch with reliable notifications, always-on display, responsive physical buttons and multiple watchfaces installed on the device itself

Life is good again.

Fitbit's Android 9 issues (which according to this thread have lasted for five months now) helped me rediscover my love for Pebble and taught me to be careful before buying another Fitbit product in the future.

So, thanks Fitbit!

Has there been any update on this bug since October? I have tried the standard updates, resets and fixes, but still not able to connect OnePlus 5 with Android 9.0 to my Charge 2 since updating to Pie.

No idea. My OS updated yesterday. But I had to download Fitbit update from websites. Google Play version is outdated. At least for me...

I have a Oneplus 6 and a Charge 3. It can sync it but not connect the GPS.

Any suggestions?

It is very frustrating, it seems that we are back in the early 2000s... Hard to understand how Fitbit sells a device without GPS and can´t make it work with the phone GPS

Seriously, with the millions of dollars they are making around the world,
you think they would be able to employ some decent workers to keep on top
of these problems

Do the same I did, go to your app store and rate them 1* and advise others not to buy it.

That they can't delete

I've had issues with my fitbit pairing for over a year, even before I switched from Apple to Andoid. Fitbit has been no help at all and just blames and Android. All this time I had two devices connected bc I have a Charge 2 and one for swimming(cnt remember the name of it). I removed the 2nd device and now have no issues synching. Fitbit should add a radial to turn off devices that are not in use and it will correct alot of there synch issues. Their lack of response to the customer has been negligent and irresponsible. They probably won't even read this or consider it as a solution to their issues.
