Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all your reports and patience with these Android 9.0 syncing difficulties. We’re aware of this ongoing issue and have been working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track as soon as possible.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I've given up waiting, my fitbits are dead in a drawer and I've moved on.
Frustrating but nothing I can do about it.

I did the very same thing but left Mr Parks off. Let's see what happens.

And notice what they did! They replied to your comment about your Zip not working since the Pie upgrade with, "Hi Paul. We're sorry for the experience. Just to confirm, have you tried these syncing tips here: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1866? Hear from you soon."

Can you believe how unconscionable they are being??? There is no sense or acknowledgement that Zips don't ever work with Pie after a few sync cycles (nor do some other models it seems). They haven't had the courtesy to train their reps to say that, and tell people they're trying to fix it. Instead, they waste everyone's time and mess up everyone's Bluetooth (at least) settings. And suggest you upgrade to Pie if you've been holding off. Really amazing.

I kind of feel obligated to help other Twitter users not waste their time on pointless troubleshooting steps with the timewasters in Fitbit Support.

At least they can be warned not to waste time and effort on things that we all know won't work, and they can be linked back to this forum thread for more details.  It makes me a little sad that FitBitSupport is giving people false hope that a bunch of nosepicking exercises might somehow make their trackers start to sync, rather than just admitting, "there is a known issue with Android 9 (Pie), and we need Google to fix something on their end first before we can fix the bug on our end."

I used to be able to sync with xiaomi a1 and alta hr, but not after latest update. (now can't even add the tracker in the app)

So I keep checking the app updates every day, hope we'll have something that works soon

FWIW, I got the March update on my Pixel 3 yesterday, and the release notes said there were improvements to Bluetooth performance.  But as usual, it worked for about a day, and this morning we're right back to "Bluetooth Issues" and "Tracker not found."  So don't expect any kind of improvement with the March Android Pie update... you won't get one.

My phone was already set this way. This does not help.

I am also rather concerned that this is all you've got. Those settings have to do with background usage. The problem we are experiencing happens right in front of us with the app open, and rebooting the tracker itself helps temporarily, not a change on the phone.

I am really skeptical that you are doing anything to actually diagnose the problem at all, which is, really, perplexing, because it is not rocket science.

Wow, welcome to six months ago, Fitbit.

I have had these settings for months and it doesn't help with my Pixel 1 and Zip.

I have a Nokia 8. The Notification setting you refer to does not exist. The Battery optimisation setting is "not allowed for Fitbits".

This is not a solution.

Does Fitbit actually do ANY testing?

This has been mentioned before; it does not work...

Just got this email from Google since I was one of the people that reported the issue to them in the thread on their bug reporting site:

---

https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/123997469

Changed
status: Assigned → Fixed

vi...@google.com added comment #35:
The development team has fixed the issue that you have reported and it will be available in a future build.

----

Let's see if that fixes the problem... Whenever that future build comes out.

Seven (7) months have passed since my Pixel 1 and Zip have stopping syncing.  I've wasted a good part of my life trying all the "fixes" and updates as of this writing, none have provided a permanent functioning solution.

Shame on you Fitbit for failing your customers!

Shame on you Google for not helping to resolve this issue in a more timely manner.....

Words cannot describe my frustration and anger....

Best Answer

I am too frustrated to care about Fitbit anymore, but I hope you are correct. Thanks!
