Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I also have to pop out the battery to get my fitbit to sync as well. I also am using a Oneplus 6t running pie. Ive tried everything listed here. Its obviously a app issue.

Don't want to sound like a smart **ahem** but I guess somebody's going to think that I am. If you have the latest phones with the latest operating system why not get the latest device. Seems like the Zip is a dinosaur now. I believe it came out in 2012. It might be time to upgrade.

I don't like anything on my wrists..not watches, no bracelets, nothing. One of the first things I do when I get home is take off my watch if I remember to put it on..and when I am home all day I never wear one. The Zip was nice because I could put it in my pocket. Not only that, after surviving the washing machine and 2 tumble dries a few years ago...pretty reliable, until now. Day 2 of my Garmin, which gives my the option of using it as a clip on and so far so good, gonna give it another day or so to to compare for accuracy before I toss the Zip

@cowhugger which Garmin device are you using?

The inspire (not the inspire hr) can be used with a clip. A clip that you can buy on Fitbit.com. And it's waterproof.

But I want one that fits on your waist, I already have watch. I also like
the battery that lasts 3 months, FITBIT don't sell anything else like that.

I actually "upgraded" from the One to the Zip specifically because Fitbit support initially told me that this was definitely a problem with my One. (Even though I said "Are you sure? Because it started right when I upgraded to Android 9...." — they said "No no, that's not possibly it. Your device is out of warranty. Buy another one!")

Like others, this is the device I want: a small thing that fits in my jeans watch pocket and counts my steps. No frills, and definitely nothing I have to wear as a watch.

If the answer is "there's a new model and it works", eh, fine (although I'd definitely expect a free trade up at this point). But that doesn't seem to be the case at all. I see that sometime in the last month or so they've taken it out of the online store and don't even have a product like this.

I don't' have the latest phone, nor do I want one. I have a Pixel 1 and I'm
happy with it for now. Not everyone has the financial resources or the need
to own the latest technology.

The Zip was sold, and presumably supported, by Fitbit until at least last
year (2018). Its possible Fitbit stopped supporting the Zip since it's no
longer sold by Fitbit. Has Fitbit retired the Zip and/or forced it into
obsolescence?

If that's the case, and I'm just speculating, why doesn't Fitbit just come
out and say that they no longer support the Fitbit Zip. At least folks
would then know and move on to another product instead of wasting their
valuable time and lives trying to find a permanent fix or workaround to make
Zip work with Pie.

@Shultgren I bought the VivoFit 3 on Amazon. YES...it came with a band HOWEVER there are clip sleeves available for it on Amazon also, I bought  a 3 pack of those...and all is working perfectly...so far. Its gonna take a little getting use to, but I expected that after 6 years with my zip. Its simple, I don't need alot of bells and whistles 🙂

@sneezyH  hi, I have been following this thread just out of curiosity. Not everyone wants an all singing and dancing gadget. Plus the persistent problems that some people seem to be experiencing have certainly made me think twice about upgrading. They don't seem to be worth the money or the time and frustration. It took me two days to get my husband's surge to synch with his phone again after fitting a new strap. I have better things to do with my time than swearing at fitbits.

Well major sync issues with poor communication and no solution in sight. They have no pressure to fix it, now having trouble to sync with computer. About to lose a frustrated and fed up customer. Regretting buying a replacement versa after first one died after just over a year. May buy Samsung version at least will know it works.

It would accelerate the update process if someone teck nerd could make a web page saying that fitbit is not syncing with android 9.0.

Fitbit do not mention it on his sales pages.

I have a Samsung S8+ running Android 9 (Pie) and a Fitbit Versa. The sync broke when I upgraded to Android 9.

I have found out that the sync is working after a restart of the phone, but only for a few minuttes.

I'm now restarting my phone every day, allowing me to sync my tracker on a daily basis. I however hope that Fitbit come up with a fix in the near future.

As I suspected, changing the AVRCP version is not a fix for the Pixel 3 + Ionic. Within a couple days it was right back to "Bluetooth issues."

Everyone may want to try resetting network settings again  I did it on my phone last night and it seems to have resolved my issues. To do this go to settings>connections>more settings. Be aware resetting network settings will have you repair any bluetooth devices and resetup your wifi settings and passwords.

Hope this helps

Charge 2 no longer working with  Nokia 6 with 9.0 Pie.  Last synched 4/4 when my Fitbit app updated.  I previously had problems synching earlier in the year but restarting phone and resyncing Fitbit worked.  So far going through all the troubleshooting steps listed at the top of this thread have not solved the problem.  The Fitbit app sometimes will see the Charge 2 and I will put in the pair code, then it just continues to cycle "connecting"  Other times it will not even find the device.

best to identify model and versions.

my Charge 2 has been syncing for a while on recent versions of Pie on my Nokia 6 TA-1033. Fitbit app is V 2.91

but it syncs without pairing.

can't get it to pair, so notifications and GPS connect still don't work.

sry, can't remember which version of Pie or Fitbit app it started working. Wasn't syncing on Oreo either.
