Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all your reports and patience with these Android 9.0 syncing difficulties. We’re aware of this ongoing issue and have been working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track as soon as possible.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

Fitbit just released an app update yesterday, so my wife was excited that this might finally fix the problem.  Nope.  Still doesn't sync.

Best Answer

This is a joke. Not going to be fixed and likely are they are NOT even working on it. The fact that moderators are asking us to use other devices to sync is very telling. We can put men on the moon, have self driving cars but Fitbit cannot solve a sync issue. Should start referring to them as Failbit.

But they'll still advertise it and people will still buy it and a certain number of them will end up here frustrated.  It's the never ending cycle of pain with these products.

Best Answer

Yes, this is the biggest problem.  If someone buys a brand new Versa today, and uses it with their (say) Google Pixel, they are out of luck.  They should probably suspend sales until they get this fixed.

Best Answer

My daughter just bought a new versa lite through Amazon and she says it's working flawlessly with her pixel 3.

Best Answer

It worked for a little while on my wife's Versa andPixel 3XL, then just stopped.  Keep an eye on it during the return period.

I'm not sure if the Versa Lite has the same problem.

Best Answer

It's been 8 months since I've been able to sync my Zip with my Pixel.  Please just come out and say that it's unsupported due to incompatibilities with how Andriod 9 handles bluetooth, and then point us to a new device that has been architected to be compatible going forward.

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing fine.

I am sorry for the delay in respond and appreciate all the feedback provided.

@ZINZIN@ScottKilbo@pham7@Gc66@MattJ71@reggert@sneezyH and @ezentmyer. If your are having syncing problems, I recommend taking a look at the help article Why won't my Fitbit device sync? and follow the instructions provided there.

Also checking if you have compatible mobile devices by checking the article: Which phones and tablets can I use with my Fitbit watch or tracker?.

I will see you around. Robot Happy

How did that help at all? We have all tried troubleshooting and there is still no fix. Your phone list still has android phones on it that have no been working for months now. Don't send a copout answer if you aren't going to fix your mistakes.

Unreal. If i had a dollar for everytime a fitbit moderator or customer service rep sent us these instructions i could buy Fitbit and fire them all. Wouldnt surprise me if most of the Fitbit employees own smart watches and pedometers from other companies.

Another useless post. The Pixel XL is NOT compatible with the Versa!!!

Hi @AlejandraFitbit. I have a Pixel 3a XL, which is a new release and
likely should be added to your list for consistency. My suggestion is to
revise your list to exclude Android 9 from the supported versions, because
clearly it isn't. Stringing these sad people along isn't serving any
purpose. Obsolescence happens. Just make a device that works with 9 and for
the foreseeable future. The problem is that, now, I can't trust Fitbit when
they say a device is supported... So I can't buy a new one.

@MattJ71 @BenInTx I'm really puzzled.

In my family we use 3 Fitbit devices associated with Pixels (3XL+Ionic, 3+Versa, Original Pixel + Charge 3) of course all updated to the latest P version and everything works perfectly (only Mobile tracker is not supported on Pixel 3).

I really don't understand why such different behavior.

Different case I think it's for Zip and One that, as per above comments, never work with Android 9 and Fitbit should be honest to recognize the problem.

I can't speak to other devices. I only know the Versa and Pixel XL don't work reliably, regardless of how many variations of the "fix" I try. My Blaze works fine. There's something wrong with the Versa IMO.

I have no idea why some Fitbit devices work with some phones and others don't.  For example:

Fitibit Ionic + BlackBerry KEY2 (Android 8.1) = Flawless Operation

Fitbit Versa + Google Pixel 3XL (Android 9.0) = Nothing Works

Fitbit Blaze + Google Pixel 3XL (Android 9.0) = Flawless Operation

Is it the phone?  The Fitbit?  No idea.

I have a simple Zip. It has 2 jobs, count steps and synch to my S8. Guess
what it can't do?

So I just got an email the Fitbit mods removed my post. Why? Bc I used a 4
letter word that Clark Gable used in Gone With the Wind. That and
apparently being ticked off that I have a useless piece of equipment since
it can't synch and telling them to fix their "ehem" program is "hostle".

This was in response to the latest moderator tagging me and providing "hey,
have you tried this" company "help".

I also asked for an actual person to contact me. Well they did, and told
me they removed my post. Nothing about, hey we're sorry this is an issue.

Finally moved from Zip b/c it will no longer pair with my Pixel 2 XL for like 8 months now.  I bought Inspire HR thinking at least I get a syncing tracker.  But no sync for me.  I can't even get past the tracker setup.  Fitbit website says Pixel 2 XL is compatible.  Nope!  Will have to return the Inspire HR.

Best Answer

Update.  SYNCING! I gave Fitbit support a try on this issue and after some seemingly unnecessary troubleshooting we got the Inspire HR connected to the Pixel 2 XL. Thank you Julio the chat man.
