Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I have updated the Charge 2 to 22.58.0 firmware.

No battery issues

Notifications still do not work

Sync continued to work fine.

So basically, zero change to the problem I have.

This is with a Sony XA2 running Android Pie. Fitbit advice is still for me to buy a new phone it would seem. Smiley Mad

It's August 2019 and the issue is still not fixed.  It should not matter which Andorid Phone you buy in order for it to Sync with the Fitbit. I am highly unhappy with my FitBit Versa purchase.  If anybody should ask me for my opinion I would tell them not to bother to buy a Fitbit especially if they want it to sync with their phone for notifications.  I would tell them just to buy a basic fitness tracker.  I am already doing my reaserach to see which smartwatch/ fitness tracker syncs with an Android phone regardless of mobile manufacturer. And I left this recommendation of my Verified Purchase review on Amazon.

@AlessFitbit, just out of curiosity, why has this thread been unpinned from the start of the forum?  Is it too embarrassing that it is unresolved after a year and however many updates?

The other option that comes to mind is that as people are getting fed up getting no answer from the thread they are not using it as much. If that is the case, by unpinning it are you hoping it will fade quietly into the distance like many other unresolved queries?

I have no idea on how to pin or in pin from a thread.  I'm not embarrassed just highly upset that this issue even exist.  Amazon should have made the list of compatible devices on the description.  Unlike some people who have experts on discussion groups I am not one of those.  Stop with the shaming if you do not have a fix/hack for the problem.

@chiquinieto,  that message was not directed at you but at @AlessFitbit  who started the thread. I had no intention of upsetting you or shaming anyone but fitbit.  My sincere apologies to you and anyone else that I have inadvertently upset. Sorry.

Seems we are all incredibly frustrated about the lack of action to resolve this. Surprised that moderators havent swooped in to delete negative comments and reassure us they are working hard to resolve. I want to hear from Fitbit leadership explaining in fine detail what they are doing to fix this. And those who arent having these issues with android v9, count your blessings!

THEY DON'T CARE! We are a smaller population in the states. As PT Barnum
is credited with almost saying, "we are the sucker born every minute." I
will make sure to daily tell my story of their horrid ability to fix a
simple problem. They are truly waiting for us to go away and this thread
will be a distant memory.

My apologies for my comments no hard feelings except to FitBit.

An update with the A8 and Charge 2 under the new firmware.. it failed again. The Galaxy A8 with pie no longer syncs with the app again.. had to use my backup Motorola phone to sync once again. Ugh.. and no the notifications didn't work either at any point, but I had a glimmer of hope for a few days on the new firmware.

Fitbit's attitude towards the customers is outrageous, I bought my fiance a versa lite and we reported this issue to them and was told we would have to wait for google to sort it out , when challenged them they said sorry they had to sort it out m I then questioned them about the 45 day return policy abd was told if the cut off day end , the will not accept a return , due to it been passed the 45 days, I have said to them, they have a faulty item and the 45 day warranty should be exteneded until the sync issue is fixed and then give the customer 5 days after to ensure they want it. But Fitbit just said its not our problem , you should return it within the 45 days. I will organise a return as we are still in the time frame, and continue to do that until they fix the sync issue

Still not anything from Fitbit? This radio silence about problems and efforts about fixing things is unbelievable.

Don't know if this will help. But this is what I did. I have a moto g7 plus  on Pie and it was syncing most of the time until the last update in August 2019 and it would not sync any more. I uninstall the fitbit app and downloaded app version 2.58 and it will sync every time. Every time I get this no sync problem l just back down to  app 2.58 and trun off auto update.

@Jari80 and @Pamline have you contacted Fitbit?

When we are in a conversation between Fitbit users, not with customer service.

There are several sights that archive past versions. Do a search for these than download the apk.

Now search for how to install insecure apps.

"Now search for how to install insecure apps. "

You are right to highlight the insecurity in doing this.

Downloading third party hosted (non Google Play store) apps carries risk. Anybody wanting to do this needs to understand that the web site you download it from could have made a change to the app beforehand, potentially malicious.

For some this risk is acceptable, but people should at least not see this as clear cut workaround.

I have actually noticed some rather odd behaviour with my Fitbit Versa and Moto G7 Plus

When i open the Fitbit app on the phone, it shows the correct step count (according to my wach counter), but when i go to view the sync status, it shows it was last sync'd several hours ago, and notifications seem to be working perfectly

Its really odd as it appears to be syncing step count and activities etc, but still showing as being sync'd hours ago

If you have bothered reading any of the posts, you would have seen that
many of us have been in contact with customer no service. Every now and
then, a person with fitbit will tell us to try the same old tired bs and
tell us they are working on it, blah, blah, blah. We actually keep posting
so those poor souls who don't know any better will realize this has been an
issue for over a year. If they are still in warranty period, to return is
ASAP!
