Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I tried this as suggested.  Thank you for sharing. Turned off the wifi on my S9, opened the FitBit app and my FitBit Zip synced.  I have repeated this 3 times over the last half hour at each time it was successful.  It will be interesting to see if it continues to work however so far it is much better than any other work around that had been put forward by FitBit while we were being thanked for our patience.  I hope that this points FitBit in the right direction for a fix and do not consider this work around to be the fix.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

@KCHarting

disable WiFi on your phone running Android Pie

This is likely an android issue as hinted by another user few pages ago

Let's see if it will be fixed in the April patch

Are you sure it was a mosquito heart you used?

You were right.  It turned out not to be a mosquito heart.  I got it from someone who was supposed to be a shaman, but they turned out to be a community support specialist from an online forum.  I've been told they appreciate my patience while they troubleshoot what's wrong with their mosquito hearts, and that they value me as a customer.  But I have my doubts.

Not sure which Fitbit device you are using, but it does not work for Charge
2, at least for me. I did find a workaround for the Charge 2 which I posted
to this group. (That solution did not need mosquito hearts or cats blood
btw) but no notifications with that route, although steps and exercise sync
fine.

I am using MiA2 lite and Charge 2

As of the last few updates to the Fitbit app I am no longer having sync issues that I can see during activities or throughout the day. Hopefully the problems are permanently solved.

Sure it's more server side with the Fitbit server http Vs HTTPS logins now
meeting Google's requirements, rather than specific app or devices , my
Fitbit blaze also now syncs again, pretty sure Google were just as
responsible as Fitbit. Not bad almost 8+ months to fix .... Now that's
customer service at its best.

Is your call and message notifications working properly and can you see
them through tracker?

My Blaze now syncs with my Nokia 8. I agree Google and/or Fitbit have made changes tottheir servers as the Fitbit app and Android haven't changed.

I wonder if Fitbit will announce that sync now works or if they have noticed?

Same here, zip will not sync to my Pixel 2 with WIFI on or off. It seems every couple weeks someone will post a workaround claiming it's solved yet nothing ever works permanently.

Did you uninstall and reinstall the app?

>>>  "It seems every couple weeks someone will post a workaround claiming it's solved yet nothing ever works permanently."

That's because people don't understand that some models have no problems, some models have always had some problems with Android in general, and some models can't deal with Android 9 at all. I'm not sure even Fitbit support understands this (they act as if they don't...).

People think that what works for their model will work for all; that's just wrong. Everyone should at a minimum say WHICH Fitbit they are referring to, and better yet add the phone and OS version. Otherwise, all they're doing is spreading even more confusion that Fitbit is able to do on their own.

I've never heard of a Zip working with Android 9 except for a few cycles. Mine certainly doesn't. My Alta HR does fine, though.  (Zip and Alta HR, Pixel 3 XL running 9, March update. Waiting anxiously for the April update.)

All fair enough.

I have a blaze & Nokia 8 running Pie. It stopped synching when Pie hit my phone recently. I got fed up and deleted the app. Whenever the  battery ran out I had to synchronise using Windows 10 app on desktop to get the clock right!

The other day another blaze user reported theirs had started syncing again. So I reinstalled the app and once I got Bluetooth back to work, my Blaze works again.

Seems that Google or Fitbit have made changes somewhere in the cloud. Nothing has changed except a reinstall.

Maybe it will stop working again, but for now it is doing notifications and all.

So for now, I have a Blaze connecting happily to my Nokia 8 running Pie

Nokia 7.1 PLUS  - Blaze - Android 8.10 the last version before pie (android 9.) broke sync

then Android 9 never would sync since August 2018.

so as my DEV phone I unlocked the boot loader and downgraded boot loader and then back to 8.1.0  earliest version, Blaze started to Sync again -

since last friday 22/03/19 blaze works AGAIN on Android 9 tried it with latest feb 2019 security patch and still syncs fine.

my conclusion is something server side with http vs htps fitbit login has been altered to work with googles servers - now was it a fitbit fix or a google fix - i'm guessing we will never know....

yep. for whatever reason my Charge 2 has started syncing with my Nokia 6.0 (TA 1033)

been working a couple of days now, but didn't want to say anything cause, well, u know, sometimes sync works for a bit then stops.

also

because

notifications and "GPS connect" are still not working

I've started to play around with bluetooth reconnects to see if they get solved; but will probably break the syncing now 😞

does anybody know how the sync connection works as opposed to the use of bluetooth for notifications and "GPS connect"?

just an update

sync still working with Charge 2 and Nokia 6 (model TA-1033 running pie 9 with Feb patch)

Fitbit app is now up to V2.90

notifications and GPS connect is still not working.

so, my Q still is:

"does anybody know how the sync connection works as opposed to the use of bluetooth for notifications and "GPS connect"?"
