Fitbit Update: 3/6/19
Hello everyone!
We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.
First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.
Then, disable battery limitations:
Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Hey Everyone!
Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).
For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here.
We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.
I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.
Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.
Fitbit Update: 9/10/18
Hi, everybody!
Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.
When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.
Fitbit Update: 8/19/18
We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.
Thanks for your patience!
Fitbit Update: 8/11/18
Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums.
Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.
In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

Exactly same with my Pixel 2 XL. I finally had my stats for about 4 days sync this morning but that was one time and now nothing even though I have it set up to sync all day long to try to catch those rare moments that it works. Very frustrating.

Since the latest update, my dashboard was finally keeping up, but now every time I walk out of blue tooth range with my phone, my ionic won't sinc anymore. I have to run through all kinds of hoops, Bluetooth on off, reset watch, every time to get it to work again. I cant believe that Their is just one problem after the othe other. Fix it and leave it alone.

My zip still will not sync with my Pixel 2 since the android pie update 2 weeks ago. I have the app update 2.77. Have tried everything recommended - uninstall, reinstall, power off and on, etc. etc. Very frustrated now at 2 weeks of steps not recorded on my app. Would appreciate any suggestions that would actually solve the problem. Again, I have tried all of the recommended solutions multiple times!

Not sure if this helps Frogmom19, but the support department suggested that I should fit a Fitbit dongle to my Apple Mac after I found that both my Mac and Android would sync only very intermittently, once or twice a day and never on command. They duly sent one and lo and behold it has solved the problem. Oddly I need to have Bluetooth switched on for my Mac but not the Android and that will now sync without Bluetooth. I am not technical by any means, as you can probably already tell, but at any rate syncing has worked well for the past week, since fitting the dongle, so I am a happy bunny!

Thanks for the idea. I do not have a dongle, but perhaps I should invest in one so I can sync with my PC instead of my phone. I would prefer to be able to sync with my phone as I have been able to do for the past two years! It seems as thought the bluetooth won't pair with the zip anymore since the new update - it finds the zip device, but won't pair. I'm not sure if this this is a fitbit app issue or a android issue. But at least you have given me a new idea - just involves purchasing a new device which I don't currently have.

You may be right - the Zip just has a battery, you don't charge it. (its pretty low tech!) And it syncs with my phone via bluetooth. Which is what I can't seem to get to work now. It is still counting all my steps everyday, but I can't see the steps on my phone at all (and therefore not on the fitbit app on my computer either) because I can't sync. I am sure that if I resolve the issue soon, all my steps will sync over - I'm just kind of at a loss about resolving the issue.

I work as a software developer and was able to resolve the problem following these steps on my device. I have a Pixel 2 XL running Android 9.0 (Pie) and my Fitbit tracker is the Ionic (had both functioning fine before upgrading to Android 9.0).
My tracker is now actively syncing to the mobile app, I am receiving notifications, and have the ability to change settings on my clock face (all previously unable to).

I still can't get past the step where by phone pairs with my Zip. It just won't do it. It will say it is pairing, but then it doesn't. When I go into the fitbit app, it searches for my zip but can't find it. I cannot find a place that says to "forget" the zip - it is not showing up as a device in the first place. The breakdown seems to be in pairing with my zip. Last night I could pair with another device at my house via my bluetooth just fine, which leads me to believe the issue is with the zip/fitbit app.

Here's how you can forget a device, Frogmom19. I've outlined the spots to tap in green.
The first screenshot below is accessed by opening the bluetooth settings on your smartphone, either from the notification tray or through the settings app.
1. Select "Previously connected devices"
2. Select the settings for the item showing the name of your tracker ("Ionic" for myself)
3. Tap "Forget"
This removes the device settings as a paired device and allows your smartphone to pair to the watch (even if you didn't have the Fitbit app installed, you could pair the two devices over bluetooth).

I so appreciate how much detail you are going through to try and help me - but under previously connected devices I have nothing! So there is nothing to forget!
