Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I have the same issue. I've uninstalled the app, reset my fitbit. Restarted my phone. It only syncs when I first connect it. After the initial sync or two it won't sync any further an hour later and beyond. I have to reset my fitbit One to get it to sync and it eventually stops syncing.

This has happened since the Android Pie update. You all update the FitBit app on September 4 that supposedly fixed this, but the issues still persists. Please help. I just want my FitBit to sync like it used to.

Several days ago, I went to the help section and read "How to Restart your Fitbit Device". I followed the instructions and so far, it has been syncing with my Galaxy S9. I'm on day 4 without having to restart. I just thought I would pass this along in case anyone missed it in prior messages.

I tried my Charge HR again, was able to sync and am now on Day Two with it
still working ... syncing with my Galaxy S8+

I got a sync for the first time in 5 days last night, hours after re-trying
the bluetooth pairing workaround again.

I've noticed an interesting pattern. The whole time that I was using the
workaround on v2.76 and v2.77, my tracker would sync pretty reliably at
1:11 or 1:12am, and at almost no other time.

Same thing last night. 1:12am. This has happened probably 6 or 7 times
now.

That's intriguing. A once per day sync whether we need it or not. Ha! I did notice that too. My tracker is in my drawer. And I deleted the Fitbit app. I know how far 10,000 steps are. Maybe when the good folks at Fitbit decide to show us some tech love, I'll pull out the tracker and try again. Or not. Up to them.

While we are waiting for this problem to be fixed, many of us have another alternative.  You can install fitbit on an old android phone gathering dust and place it in a location you frequent.  I'm doing this with success using a Samsung S3 running android 6.

Thanks for the great suggestion.  As soon as I synced on an older phone, it not only synced on that phone, but also the newer phone with Pie installed.

Well, now my Fitbit one is totally crapped out, everything reads zero after several reboots (the daily rebooting has taken it's toll) so I don't have to reboot it every night to force it to sync anymore as there's no data... A sad end to my Fitbit experience... I really liked the Fitbit one, there's no point in getting another Fitbit with all the problems, it's back to the Google fitness app... 🙁

Unfortunately that's not the way it works......Fitbit trackers and their apps are kinda like a Mounds bar..... sometimes they feel like a sync, sometimes they don't lol.

Isn't that a Mounds bar?

My Charge HR has been syncing fine for three days now. Fingers crossed.
Still disappointed in the extreme lack of response from fitbit. What's up
with that? At least they could have been having a dialog with us about what
they are doing to fix the issue.

I see folks are reporting that their trackers have started to sync again. Are any Fitbit One owners finding they're now able to sync automatically via the Android app?

Nope. My one syncs occasionally, randomly or when I manually sync with a reboot.

My Zip device is still not working with Andriod Pie. When I try to connect
it says rejected by the Zip device.

My One is still not syncing. I have to force it with a reboot and sometimes
even then it doesn't sync.

No dice for my fitbit ZIP on a Pixel w/9.   Working in IT, I understand the difficulties and time to develop and test fixes and patches. However this has taken a very long time, since August.

My Flex hasn't been able to sync since 9/5.  Tried everything short of deleting it from the app and putting it back.  The workaround posted here worked until then.

Apologies, 9/7 not 9/5

Is there any update to this? Android Pie was in beta testing for months, and has been released for over a month. Not having basic functionality like this working is pretty unacceptable. What's the holdup?
