Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

Seems like FitBit could have rewritten the entire application by now. It's been over two months that this one defect has persisted with day after day of "no update."

Just updated my OnePlus 6 to Android 9 and disappointed to see others are having this issue too.  What a joke, I wont be buying another FitBit again that's for sure...

It seems like Fitbit should disclose that their products are not compatible with Android 9.0. I went to the Amazon site and saw no mention of this.  I was prohibited from leaving a review or posting a question on the charge 3.

That's weird. Wonder why they won't let you review. Did you purchase on
Amazon? If so, I would contact Amazon to see why you are not being allowed
to review or question.

I have always loved my FitBit, but this is concerning.

Hi

I'm on the OnePlus 6 and using Android 9.0. I haven't been able to sync my Fitbit flex2 to the app since sepSeptem 28th. I keep getting Bluetooth errors. While I have written to Fitbit and they have not been able to offer a solution they did however say my phone is not a compatible device. After years of using Fitbit it's disappointing that Fitbit has not resolved this sync issue

Can someone help?

Thank you

I don't think there is a working solution yet. I believe none of their devices sync with a phone running Android 9.0. I ve given up and moved onto Google Fit and a wear OS smartwatch.

Just saw a new Fitbit app update. So far I have been able to sync for over five minutes! I hope this lasts!

UPDATE: It didn't last. 😞 My Pixel will still not stay synced with my Fitbit flex!

Try it and let us know what is happening 😉

Good luck,

The update didn't fix the syncing issues my Fitbit one. I've been rebooting it every night and it syncs for a few moments and stops till I do it again.

New data point: Just upgraded from Pixel XL running Android 9 to the new Pixel 3 running Android 9 and still can't sync my Fitbit one without restarting the Fitbit in the dongle. Been waiting since August for a fix.

Even with the latest update my One will synch once after a reboot and then
won't synch again.

I just wanted to provide an update regarding how my Pixel 2 XL running Android Pie (October 5th security update) and my Fitbit One (firmware version 6.64) worked after updating the Fitbit Android app to version 2.81. After updating the Fitbit Android app to version 2.81, I force-stopped the app, and deleted both the app's cache and data. I then rebooted the phone, and turned off Bluetooth while I forced a soft reboot of my One by plugging it into the charger while holding down its button. Finally, I turned my phone's Bluetooth back on.

After all this, when I launched the Fitbit app on my phone and provided my login information, it successfully sync'ed my One without any further action on my part. Furthermore, the app continued to sync my One on an ongoing basis (the syncs seemed to happen every 15-45 minutes or so) for the rest of the day and into the evening, going so far as to reliably sync when my phone was in my living room and the One was in my bedroom nightstand drawer. It apparently continued to sync all through the night (the Fitbit app's "keep-alive" notification showed recent sync times the couple times I woke up in the night) and into the morning after my alarm went off, and I'd taken my phone off its charger and laid in bed reading news for a while.

For whatever reason, all this perfect functioning stopped at 7:05 this morning after I got out of bed and left my phone on my nightstand directly above the One in the nightstand drawer. Since then, all automatically and manually initiated syncs have failed with the app saying that the tracker was not found.

For me, this has been the longest stretch of time that syncing worked flawlessly, even after I'd gone through the same series of steps after updating previous versions of the Fitbit app. With earlier versions, either syncing never worked at all after an update, or would work for maybe an hour or two.

At this point, I have absolutely no idea what to think about all this. I just wanted to provide the dev team with my experiences in the hopes that they may find it helpful...

@MisterShark wrote:

I previously used the Android fitbit app to monitor my heart rate in real time, with my Pixel 2 XL sitting on the elliptical machine's display shelf.

After updating to Google's newest Android version 9 (released 8/6/2018) my fitbit app no longer syncs heart rate at all: the heart rate tile simply shows a static (not pulsing) heart shape graphic with two lines beneath it and resting heart rate shown under that on the heart rate tile.

My steps sync and sleep date is also in sync, so it appears that just hearty rate data is not being synced.

I have tried checking all relevant setting in the fitbit app and have the following set to 'on':
- All-Day Sync
- Always Connected

- Notifications are on for Calls, Text Messages & Calendar Events

In case it is helpful in troubleshooting, I tested text and voice call notifications and both work fine.

Possibly relevant specs for hardware/software:

Phone - Google Pixel 2 XL running Android ver. 9

fitbit tracker - Charge 2 running firmware ver. 22.22.55.2

fitbit (for Android) app - ver. 2.76 (updated 8/7/2018)

Troubleshooting steps performed so far:

- restarted Charge 2

- restarted my Pixel 2 XL

I'm an exec support technician so I'm used to the usual troubleshooting steps.  I have not yet uninstalled/reinstalled the app on my phone nor have I factory reset my Charge 2 because I found it curious that just the heart rate tracking isn't working while everything else appears to be OK.

I'm guessing the continuous real time communication that keeps the Charge 2 updating the open app on my phone is being blocked somehow by the new Android version which is increasingly focused on battery savings.  This may be something that the fitbit app designers will need to work out with the app's coding itself, and how it will need to interact with this newest version of Android.

Thanks in advance for your help/advice

Here we go again <sigh>

Just activated my new Pixel 3, checked on my fitbit app, and bam: no heart rate sync again.

I've already restarted a bunch of times.

And for the record, my previous heart rate sync woes had been remedied eventually with one of the numerous fitbit software updates, which made me happy.  Too bad it was short-lived.  😞

***update***

I can't explain this one, but I just moved the heartrate tile on the fitbit app's Dashboard because I wanted it to be closer to the top of my screen, and all of a sudden after I clicked the checkmark in the upper left (to accept the change) and the heartrate started syncing in real time again.

I guess I'm good for now.

I got the update, launched it, and immediately it said "tracker not found."  No improvement whatsoever.
