Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

Thanks for all your reports and patience with these Android 9.0 syncing difficulties. We’re aware of this ongoing issue and have been working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track as soon as possible.

I'll let you know if I receive any additional information on this matter.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

How long before the build is fixed now wonder.

BTW When did you log the defect?

The defect was first logged on Issue tracker by someone on Feb 6th, 2019.

I would not assume that Fitbit did anything about this before that.

No idea when a new build will be out. Maybe it won't be until Android 10. It's not like cell phones get updates very often (especially not the ones from the carriers). Maybe they mean the build of the Fitbit app. We can hope.

My Pixel 3 XL stopped being able to get data from my fitbit 1 about a week ago. It was working till then. It was broken about 2 months ago and then suddenly started working till about a week ago.

Hope that is helpful to the developers if they monitor this board.

Thanks,

Partha

@fawlty they for sure don't mean a build of the FitBit app. Google doesn't have any control over the app itself.

I'd expect they hopefully mean the April builds of Android 9 for the Google Pixel phones. Hopefully, this will then filter down to the other Android phones over time as it was fixed in Android ASOP.

I can check when the April build hits my Pixel XL 1 to see if it's fixed. *Fingers Crossed*

BTW I logged the original bug in the Android Bug Tracker in February 2019. Watched on the sidelines for a long time since it stopped syncing on my Pixel back in August of 2018 and finally decided to do some troubleshooting myself and launch the bug report.

I'm kind of amazed that for all their insisting they were working on the problem with Google, Fitbit never opened a bug report, and one wasn't opened until you opened it in February.  All along I just kind of assumed that surely Fitbit must have had an issue open, but it kind of looks like they never did?

Today is a sad day.   This is my last day with a Fitbit.   I gave up waiting on Fitbit to fix this.  I ordered a new fitness tracker, and it is not a Fitbit.

I have been using a Fitibit since 2012.  This little tracker has been attached to me almost 24/7 since then.  Back then Fitbit was an aggressive small company with amazing customer service.  I even participated as a Beta tester for the very first Android bluetooth sync!  But a lot has changed since then.  As smartwatches started stealing market share, Fitbit's finances took a hit.  They started cutting back on perks and customer service.  And that is where we have arrived today.

I really hate to go.  I have a lot of data I will be leaving behind.  But I don't have any confidence they can support their products any more.

Goodbye Fitbit!  Thanks for the memories!

Same thing here... Restarted the phone (9S+) and the app but to no avail... This 'fix' is not one.

That's the March update that I got a few days ago. I have no confidence that the app is fixed, but I don't think we'll really know until the April Pie update (for those of us with Pixels, or 2023 for those with Samsungs, or never for those with LGs (yes I'm bitter)).

I've been with Fitbit since 2012 as well!! I've been a proponent as well. Oh well.

You don't have to leave your data behind. You can actually download the data from their server in csv format if you wish.

Yep, same here. Although now rather than giving an error, it just spins for a bit and then gives up, leaving "19 minutes ago" as last sync.

Yes, that sounds easy doesn't it?  Unfortunately your only option to get a CSV is for a max of one month at a time.  It would be a lot of work to get all the way back to 2012.  They don't want it to be too easy to switch.  🙂  There is a download everything option, but it does not include all the activity data and is provided in a useless .json format.

I think I'm better off just making a clean break.  Plus I can start earning awards again.  I maxed out on Fitbit with the Earth badge a long time ago.  *LOL*

There is a free website fitness syncher that will pull data from Fitbit so
you can at least have it. You can then transfer it elsewhere like strava.

I recommend installing a Bluetooth app on your phone and checking how many devices are connected to your phone via Bluetooth. I think you are limited to four. Try disconnecting from some to make room for the Fitbit.
I did that and it has fixed my problem. I think it's a limitation of Bluetooth.

Which Fitbit model do you have, @zsk240  ?

Thanks but I tried it on my S9+ running the latest release of Pie and it made no difference with my Zip.  Of course, I followed all of the standard procedures that have been documented ad nauseam in this thread.... 😞

I too had my post deleted with a similar email that it was inflammatory. I did not curse, I was not abusive, all I did was provide contact info for executives.

It worked!! Thanks for sharing zsk240!!! I unpaired some old bluetooth devices, closed my fitbit app, reopened it, tried syncing it and in a couple minutes it synced!

For reference: Samsung galaxy s9+, Fitbit Charge 3.
