Ok have loaded app on older Sony Z3 and got it to sync. Then went back to Nokia 8, Android 9 and its now working again.

So if you still have older phone try and get it talking again before using new phone

There's a long running known bug with syncing using Pie that's affecting some people.

The main thread discussing this issue, and which has updates from fitbit, is at:

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Android-9-0-Pie-not-able-to-sync/td-p/2889550

Note though that the last update from fitbit was in October so I would be surprised if an early fix is coming. How long do you have before you lose the option to return it to Amazon?

The Fitbit app was last updated on January 11th, according to the Play Store app.

Hi, well I can return anytime in the next 12 months. However the Nokia 8 has been abandoned. There was a problem with BTE the low power bluetooth, would not work with several health devices that used BTE so have gave up on it and bought a Samsung Galaxy S9. All working again now, perhaps people need to restart the bluetooth on their phone to see if that fixes it something I also did at the time.

So what ever the problem is, it's a phone fault to blame.
