I see this was a problem a few years ago that was resolved but unfortunately I'm unable to log any food that isn't recent. Sometimes when selecting recent food, there's a load screen that doesn't load anything.
I have tried:
1) closing the app and restarting it
2) restarting my phone
3) logging out of the app, restarting my phone and logging back in
They all work for me to be able to search the food database and log and item, but when I try to search to add more - same problem.
I'm an android user. Software and app is all up to date.
Any ideas?

@najackson It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community! Sorry to hear that you aren't able to log your food using your Android device. Since you are using an Android phone I suggest you clear the app's memory (settings > apps > Fitbit > storage) and if this doesn't work uninstall and reinstall the app. Also in the settings area please check the app's permissions.
