It seemed when I got my new Charge 5, which I really like by the way, that is was configured in such a way that the display was totally dark until I turned it toward me and then I could see all my data.
Now it only dims slightly just showing the time and when turned toward me i see the rest of my stats.
It seems I can't make it work as I first described
it seems my battery doesn't last as long..

It sounds like your Always On Display is activated.
Swipe down to settings, (if this page is correct). Tap display, disable always on.
Currently I'm wearing the Luxe which should have the same navagation of menus.

The display now goes dark but does not awake until I tap the screen. Many
times I have my hands full and I like the display to activate with a flick
of the wrist. My Charge 4 worked that way and I thought this one did as
well when I first got it.
Thanks

True but
Do you have a sleep schedule set up?
This will automate the sleep mode.
The faint display should be controlled by the Allwaus On Setting. Sleep mode disables this, auto awake, and notifications.
A sleep schedule, when Sleep mode is activated, will controll the Sleep mode based on the schedule.
