It seemed when I got my new Charge 5, which I really like by the way, that is was configured in such a way that the display was totally dark until I turned it toward me and then I could see all my data.
Now it only dims slightly just showing the time and when turned toward me i see the rest of my stats.
It seems I can't make it work as I first described
it seems my battery doesn't last as long..

It sounds like your Always On Display is activated.
Swipe down to settings, (if this page is correct). Tap display, disable always on.
Currently I'm wearing the Luxe which should have the same navagation of menus.

Then make sure Screen Awake is set to auto.

Do you have a sleep schedule set up?
This will automate the sleep mode.
The faint display should be controlled by the Allwaus On Setting. Sleep mode disables this, auto awake, and notifications.
A sleep schedule, when Sleep mode is activated, will controll the Sleep mode based on the schedule.
