Download or Update Fitbit app when trying to pail

I’m trying to pair my Charge 4 (hand me down from my daughter) to my LG phone, but it keeps showing “download or update fitbit app” on my Fitbit when I try. My daughter has restarted my phone, restarted the Fitbit, closed the Fitbit app, deleted the app and downloaded it again, and tried to pair it with her iPhone and nothing is working.

Hello @BDsenior

Hopefully I can help. First make sure you are using a compatible device to use the Fitbit App. You can check on compatible here: https://www.fitbit.com/global/us/technology/compatible-devices. Hopefully it’s compatible and I can help you set it back up.

It sounds like your Charge 4 somehow got disconnected from your account. Let’s try setting it up again as a new device. You won’t lose any data doing so as your data is held on the Fitbit Servers. Unfortunately since you currently can’t sync your Charge 4 you will however lose any data you may have collected after your last successful sync.

Here is how you set up your Charge 4 again as a new device. Please follow these instructions carefully and do not skip a step:

  1. Remove the Charge 4 from the Bluetooth settings on your Android phone. (Since you mentioned trying it on your daughters iOS iPhone make sure it’s not showing up on her Bluetooth either) Your on an LG Android so tap unpair to remove it from your Bluetooth.  If your Charge 4 is not showing on your Bluetooth at all proceed to step 2. (Basically make sure your not showing on Bluetooth at all)
  2. Turn off other nearby Bluetooth connections.
  3. Check if your Fitbit App is updated
  4. Log out of your  Fitbit app and restart your Android phone
  5. Restart your Charge 4: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186.htm
  6. Log back into your Fitbit app as you normally would with your email address and password, tap your profile picture then scroll down and tap Set Up a Device.
  7. Select Charge 4 from the list of trackers and follow the onscreen instructions. When asked if you want to replace the Charge 4 say yes.

😃 I’m hoping this works and provides you with a solution. Please come back and let me know how it went.

My daughter got it to connect to her iPhone and added to my account after a lot of turning off and back on and synced it. After she logged out on her phone and forgot the Bluetooth connection, it was eventually able to be set up on my phone after more turning off and on. I think it’s fixed.

Woohoo @BDsenior 🥳 I’m so happy it worked up and running! Although sometimes it gets complicated but at least the end results is good news! 😃 Enjoy the rest of your evening and as always Happy Stepping!
