Exercise data disappearing randomly, weeks after being logged in.

Random exercise data is disappearing. This has been happening for months now. For example, I open the log for months of November - days 13 and 14 were circled, indicating that exercise was logged, and two seconds later the circled disappeared. I know I logged workouts on those days - even my Google timeline shows that I took a 40 minute walk. It's like data just gets randomly erased. Or, I know that on October 9th I spent the entire day hiking, and my watch recorded everything, and it was saved on the account. Now that entire week is empty, despite me exercising every day that week. But about 5-10 days a month remain there, it's not like entire months are being lost. It only happens weeks later, after syncing with the watch shouldn't apply anymore. Based on some other people's threads, this has been an issue for years, and nothing has been done to protect the data.

There is no way to make a local backup of data or export it out of the account. Is anyone working to fix this issue?

Hello @iryn

The Fitbit team is aware of the issue and has been working on fixing the problem. However, I haven't seen a timeline for the fix yet.

As best as I can tell, there isn't a loss of user data. It seems to me that there's a sync issue between the Fitbit servers and the app.

I am also missing 2 WEEKS of data!

It's absolutely ridiculous! Whats the point of the watch and app if it's not going to work?

Best Answer

@iryn The app has been buggy since the first week of September, and I haven't been able to reliably record activities since then. The erasure of 'Exercise Days' is a new issue that started a few weeks ago. I can't remember whether it was the 4.29 or 4.30 version. At this point, it doesn't matter. The app is essentially broken.

Google seems too prideful to roll back to a version that worked. I've been in IT for years. I have never seen a company that doesn't follow standard industry practices when new versions flop.

I realized after posting my reply that the google fit app does have my info - just not the fitbit app.  How irritating that this stuff is so buggy!

@cayenneginger I have heard that it's not a server issue. The problem lies in the Fitbit Android App.

I haven't migrated at this point, and no one at Google has recommended that I move my account. Could this be the heart of the problem?

I'm now wondering if all my problems will be solved by simply moving my account.

Any update on this issue?  Started happening for me a few months ago and I converted my account to Google after it started happening.  This is still occurring.  Is a fix in the works?

Hello @iryn , @Emma_T , @cayenneginger , @Rwilliams0204

One of the Moderators posted in this thread (<-- click link) today (06 Dec 2024) that this issue has been escalated to the appropriate team and that they are working to fix the problem. However, there's no timeline for the fix.

At this point, there's no troubleshooting we can recommend since the issue is on the Fitbit side.

@Emma_T I understand you to say that you haven't migrated your Fitbit account from the Fitbit login to the Google login, is that correct?  You were wondering if that would fix all of your problems.  I migrated mine a while back, partly to see if things would improve, but there was no difference for me.

I have been a Fitbit One user on Android phone for over ten years and never had ongoing issues like this before.  Sure, there were occasional glitches, but the Fitbit team usually took care of them promptly.  Since the Google acquisition of Fitbit, it has been a mess, with fixes being thrown out with what appears to be little or no testing, since they oftentimes make things worse.  And I agree with you that a rollback to a previous working software version is the industry standard when things go this poorly.

I've lost YEARS of exercise data! It's all gone, I've got this week and last week and a couple of days here and there but when I go back month by month it's all gone! I log exercise every day and have done for years, this is appalling and seems to have happened to me after this most recent update. Devastating 😭

So frustrating, but this is happening to me as well. Have you been able to fix it?

Best Answer

No, I've tried everything that has been recommended, cleared cache, reboot etc etc and nothing has worked, lost YEARS worth of data, so annoyed!

I hope there's some sort of fix otherwise it's not good enough!

I only found out because I wanted to check some progress and it was all gone. It's so weird, this happened to me with the last update, it kept a couple of random days here and there and wiped the rest apart from the last couple of weeks, years of exercise just gone 🤬

Yep I tried everything they recommended and  more data is gone. I think it's time to quit fitbit.

Me too but there have been so many problems. I've replace my watch 4 times in 2 years and now this. I  brought a  garmin Venu 3S and have been using them both and I don't have any problems with the Garmin.

I went to the google play store and rated the fitbit app at 1 star and said data disappeared and realized a developer replied right away last night. It would be a good idea for us all to do that and might get heard quicker.
