Exercise map no longer on new app?

I always use the exercise part of app to track my distance and see where I actually walked. Since the app update, there is no longer a GPS map of the exercise. Does anyone know where it has been moved to or why it was removed from this new app update?

I may be driven to Strava. If I am, I'll just switch to my Garmin. I have been happy with the Fitbit app until now.

Nope. None are annotated with gps.

Thanks for the info.  I will look into it.

Thank you for the instructions! I really missed that feature.

Thank you thank you! I have spent a great deal of time on phone, chat, and email screen shots and Fitbit couldn't tell me this! My favorite function is finally available to me again!

When will the gps map be back on the app, it was very useful, please update status

I followed all the advice on this forum, still no map. The independent GPS was one of the reasons I bought this Fitbit, no map means I have to buy something else, sad

From the home screen on "Today" look at the bottom right and find the plus sign in a blue box. Tap the plus sign and it will look just like it did before at this point when you used to get it from tapping "Exercise." Tap "Start Exercise" and the live gps map and tracking will start and look just like it did before the update. Why no one from Fitbit support could answer this question is a mystery to me.

On the home screen, "Today" tap the plus sign in the bottom right. Then it will look like it did before the update. Tap "Start Exercise" and gps map opens for live tracking.

You're describing the GPS on the phone app. What if I don't want to take my phone with me on a run? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, sorry if that's the case

Best Answer
Yes. My directions were for taking your phone to exercise.

Without the phone:
Then you have to start exercise on your Fitbit, by swiping left and tapping
on Exercise. Then swipe up and check that gps is "on." Then swipe back down
to tap on the type of exercise you are doing. You can't swipe up to check
on gps function AFTER you select your exercise type. You have to do it when
you are looking at "Exercise."

You can see your map after your run on your phone app by tapping on
Exercise. But I am less familiar with this function because I always take
my phone to have the map to see in real time if I get a little
turned around and want to retrace my path.

I hope you can find what you are looking for.

@SunsetRunner unless we have a fitbit with built in GPS, we will need the phone.

Of you have done a walk/run/etc with GPS

  • Tap your exercise days tile
  • Choose your week
  • Tap the exercise.
  • Screenshot_20231113_133520.png
  • The above screen use to have a thumbnail of the map.
  • You will see the map.

I did this walk without phone, streaming music through the Pixel Watch. Started with a full battery, and while the tracker did not turn off, it went into power saving mode. Shutting GPS off

  • The map has always been on the new app. It is the preview people want back.

This also is explained in the Best Answer

This is extremely annoying. Unused to be able to scroll quickly through my maps to choose my next hike. I could quickly see how long each one took me, how much elevation change there was etc. Now when I click on exercise days and try to scroll, the maps don't load unless I click on them. I like and use Google products - you can do better.

Fitbit is not responding to any of our concerns. I purchased a different tracker with which I am pleased. So I am moving on.

Yep I no longer have the map which I find really useful. Looking forward to its return.

This is what I currently see….

I have a Charge 5.  I find that when I set the GPS to built-in (rather than dynamic) the map comes back for my runs. For some reason the 'dynamic' setting no longer works

Best Answer

@Kate_01 it looks like this walk was not recorded with GPS. I'm your listing of walks, was this walk tagged with gbs?

Best Answer

Hi Rich, it was logged with GPS. It made a pretty red line as I walked. Some of my GPS maps have returned since I made my post. I guess changes are happening and I just need to be patient until they are complete.

I have a similar issue.  Prior to the app update I always got good maps in the App and on Strava.  Now - nothing. I have the Inspire 3, so it depends on the GPS in my iPhone.  For run and bike I ensured the GPS setting is "on" on the actual FItbit, and it vibrates to tell me it is connected.  I get tracking data, but no maps and nothing uploaded to Strava.  @Fitbit or does anyone else know how to solve this?

This update to the Fitbit app is terrible. It worked fine before and the maps were accessible and reliable. Google have updated the app for the sake of appearance over function.
