How to Temporarily 'Shut Down' Background FitBit App on Phone

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'll be on a remote trek hiking for about 6 days and off the grid. I'm NOT taking my Charge 2.

I'm taking my (Android 8.1) phone (and spare battery) but it will be in airplane mode with with Wifi, BT and data/voice all turned off to conserve - only be using it for photos. The Fitbit app has a perpetual notification up showing last sync and always seems to be running in the background...

QUESTION: Short of completely un-installing the Fitbit app for the trek - is there a way to 'disable' it or put it to sleep or otherwise make dormant so to speak?

Thanks,

@pgtr Hi and Welcome - if I understand your enquiry correctly you can do 2 things - deselect (un-pair) your tracker from your phone (Bluetooth) and the second is to go to apps in phone settings and scroll down to Fitbit click on this then select mobile data you should be able to toggle allow background data to off from there

Hope this is what you was asking about.

Kind Regards

What I want to do is conserve power and minimize apps I won't be needing/using while off the grid...

Mobile Data will already be turned off for the entire phone and it will be in airplane mode.

What I did so far is

DESELECT 'Always Connected'

DESELECT 'Keep-Alive Widget'

DESELECT 'All-Day Sync'

The constant notification in Android is now gone and I'm thinking the app is (somewhat?) more dormant but won't have to go thru the hassle of completely de-installing and re-installing later... comments?

thanks

@pgtr Hi as per my second suggestion this will disable the apps mobile data so even if you switch on the phones data to say google maps Fitbit should not try and search for the device with that option disabled,

a few other suggestions non Fitbit related though - this article may give a few more ideas you could try if you haven't thought of it already but seems you have it pretty much covered,

you may want to consider the power packs you can get nowadays as well as an extra precaution same can hold enough for 2 full charges of the phone - these are small and should not weigh much so shouldn't add to much extra to your backpack etc.

(this is just suggested if you google power packs for android it will give you more shopping choices for your area

good luck and hope you have a good time

Kind Regards

OK thanks! Found it:

Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Fitbit -> Permissons -> Phone (etc.)

(now just to remember how to undo all of this when I get back!)

Yep, have extra batteries,
