Ionic not syncing with Android

This is getting ridiculous. It used to be 1 in 19 times that the Android app wouldn't sync since it claims it can't find the ionic... That is on the wrist of the hand holding the phone. Now it's 4 out of every 5 tries. What gives?

I was having this issue for a while, but now have it configured so it sync's regularly.  This is what I had to do.

Samsung Galaxy S8+

Fitbit Inonic

In the Fitbit App

Go to the Settings Icon (Upper Right Corner)

Pick the Ionic settings.

Turn off the All-Day Sync (greyed out)

Scroll down and turn off Always Connected (greyed out)

Then go into your Bluetooth settings and un-pair the Ionic from your phone.

Once I did that it started syncing no problem.  Didn't have to do network settings resets or any of that.  Hope it works for you.

Hi, I've the Ionic since Christmas and it's nothing but a nightmare. I have tried to sync today for instance 47 times, uninstalled the app numerous times, reset the watch 9 times, restarted my phone 11 times and have used 44% of my battery trying to sync.

When is this ever going to be resolved or are you willing to offer a full refund

I am there with you.. Super frustrating

After leaving everything alone since my last post, I just charged up the FB
and tried again. It won't get past the attempt to do the first sync. This
is crap. I am throwing this away.

It is a piece of crap . I just donated my money to Fitbit for a worthless hunk of tech.

Update:

They will not . They are not interested in honoring their warranty either. I am so frustrated with them.  After weeks of trying, I am sure now they don't care to see this fixed.

I have been trying to sync my ionic for days and nothing is working. I can't tell you how many times i've restarted my phone, restarted the fitbit, turned bluetooth off and on repeatedly and nothing works. In the past setting it up as a new device worked but it's not working this time. I am beyond frustrated to be stuck with this overly priced hunk of garbage. I've been with Fitbit for 3 years but I think it's time to switch.

May be we could put a 1 star rating in all the websites selling fitbit.

Hi oCMANo,

thanks for your advise.

I tried to resolve the sync issue reading through the posts above. After many attempts yours advice let me immediately get it fixed.

I strongly suggest for the Fitbit team to adopt this as an "official" fix rather than finding it after trying numerous dead ends.

Greetings

Chuck

Thanks!

Actually had someone who used to work at Fitbit start at the company I work for. They said the Ionic's got some HW design flaw that causes the sync issues.  My wife's Versa works perfectly, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed my Ionic keeps working like it has with my settings.  Still syncing so far!

I agree..... This Ionic was a terrible purchase decision! It looks good but it ends there!!!!

It simply won't sync or update at all!!! I have tried turning off, uninstalling and reconnecting, following all the advice on the forum and it is just so incredibly frustrating! I had a Polar device and never had an issue.... Oh, I wish I had stayed with Polar - no wonder Fitbit as a company is sinking if they produce such garbage!

Thank you! This worked perfectly on my HTC as well.

Thank you oCMANo! This worked for me.

I can't believe I didn't think of removing the watch from my connected bluetooth devices.

While trying to reconnect I rebooted both the watch and phone multiple times. Turned bluetooth off and on, and reinstalled the Fitbit app. None of it made a difference.
So I removed the Watch from within the Fitbit app and tried to reconnect again. It would say it's "Connecting" for about 15 seconds then abort without any reason.

After removing the Watch from my Paired Bluetooth Devices from within the phones Bluetooth settings, I was finally presented with the normal first connection screens and was able to resync my Ionic.

This must have been a combination of:
- Go to phone Bluetooth Settings and "forget"/remove the Fitbit watch.

- Go into Fitbit app and try to resync (if this does not work, remove Fitbit watch from within the app, and readd it)

So glad I had a watch that was 47 minutes slow for a week and a half and lost 10 days worth of sleep logs because of this...

I'm new to Fitbit...  Long time Microsoft Band 2 user looking for alternative since Band 2 is discontinued.  First tried Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music and liked it, but still preferred Band 2.  So I returned it and went with Ionic.  Wow, what a mistake.  I do like the look and feel on my wrist better than Band 2 or VA3, but the apps (android and W10M) are not as good and the sync function is so problematic.  The Band 2 and VA3 just worked.  Ionic takes forever or doesn't work sometimes.  If I select all day sync, it kills battery life. If I turn it off, syncs take forever when I open app.  Plus the Fitbit app is missing so much functionality versus Band 2 and VA3.  Disappointing.  Fitbit, please review Garmin and Microsoft Band 2 apps, especially the Band 2 app.

Ever since I bought my Ionic it has been finicky. Finally I gave up and asked my husband who is more tech savvy than I. He pointed out to me that the device I am using to Sync to he had set up to use the 5 GHz band but the watch uses the 2.4 GHz range. So now he has set my syncing device, a Samsung tablet to only connect to the slower 2.4 band and now my Ionic syncs blindingly fast. Syncs in mere seconds now.

You're talking bluetooth sync? What you are describing are wifi connection
frequencies. Bluetooth is only 2.45GHz.

What I am talking about is your router. If your network of choice is 5GHz which mine was due to the better speeds then bluetooth maybe how you connect to the syncing device such as your tablet but then how does your tablet connect? Simple. Through your router to the internet. So yes you connect to your tablet via bluetooth but then the info is sent through your tablet to the internet. If 5Ghz only is chosen then syncing us glitchy. Make sure your syncing device (tablet) uses only the 2.4GHz band and voila syncs every time.
