Ionic not syncing with Android

This is getting ridiculous. It used to be 1 in 19 times that the Android app wouldn't sync since it claims it can't find the ionic... That is on the wrist of the hand holding the phone. Now it's 4 out of every 5 tries. What gives?

Hello @wookietim, good to see you around. Indeed we had reports of syncing issues with Ionic. However  this has been sorted out already. For more details take a look at this post: RESOLVED: Ionic Syncing Issues.

If the syncing issues persists in your case, give it a try to this recommendations: Having trouble syncing? (here's how to fix this).

See you later and hope this helps.

Mine doesn't work at all!

If I have WIFI connection then the windows10 app is updated which then updates the app!

i'm currently experiencing the same thing. 😔

I am glad a work around was created. Of course, it doesn't work for me or any of the multitudes of others reporting this... So maybe a firmware update is needed for fitbit to actually make this work?

Welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community @SunsetRunner, @sulaimaan and thank you for the update @wookietim. Since its been a few weeks after you posted, I would like to check with you and follow up how it goes by now? Is the issue still persisting or have you been able to sync?

In case the issue persists let me know if you were able to try the troubleshooting steps I recommended before and if you have tried the steps, how far were you able to go to sync your Ionics?

See you later and stay tuned to the Community for more help.

I followed the trouble shooting steps, for the 8th time since I've had this device (todays event aka trying to sync took 2 attempts of uninstalling/reinstalling, etc).

Since when on a brand new device do I need a "workaround" that requires

1) complete uninstall of the software

2) removal of bluetooth device from phone

3) turning off bluetooth

4) setting all this up again WITH the added bonus of needing to either a) have my cable on me and a computer or b) being near my computer that it was set up on and connecting the ionic so I can sync back to my phone.

This is the the dumbest smart device I've ever owned.  I love you fitbit, but you've pooped the bed with this one.  UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE.

Having same issues.  Just Uninstalled, re-paired, resync'ed the ionic to my android phone (refuse to set it up to laptop), and now it won't do wifi, just sits and spins.  Fix this software!

I received the Ionic yesterday as an early Christmas gift. I've had nothing but issues and it will not sync with my Android. I'm currently wearing an unusable $300 hunk of junk on my wrist.

I've went through all forums as well as your Resolved: Ionic synching issue article and still nothing. You really need to make some updates because this is the worst product that I've had from your company, and I've had three of your Fitbits.

I'm asking for assistance with this or we'll be returning the device and going with another device/company. It's a shame that for how much you spend there isn't better support.

My fitbit is undergoing a firmware update as we speak.  Fingers crossed, I'm hoping it gets better and not worse.

To be honst, it seems that the main problem was the developer version of the OS I had on it... as soon as I backed that out I have seen a lot less problems syncing. It still isn't perfect (And for $300, bluetooth ought to be perfect on this thing, by the way - we aren't talking about a new bleeding edge tech here) but it's good enough for now.

It still does not seem to work as well as it should. I know for sure my Ionic is running the latest updates, but when I turn on my phone in the morning, it will always fail to sync. I can get around it by turning Bluetooth off and on, and manually sync the Ionic with the phone, but it will not do so automatically at first. Once I get it to work, it seems to work fine for the rest of the day, until I turn my phone off for the night of course.

Close, but not quite there yet.

P.S., I used to have a Charge 2, and never had this issue at all, using the exact same phone and Fitbit app. on that phone.

I had to do a reboot on mine then the screen froze  completely on the Fitbit icon screen. 1.5 hours chatting with tech support and they are offering to replace the watch. It's 2 days old....I also had a charge 2 ...glad I didn't give it away....I may be trying to just get a refund I'm.so disappointed.

Hi there!

I am still having issues with syncing. I have done all the steps you guys recommend trying to fix it and my phone just does not see my ionic. there is no way I can get them closer to each other unless I fuse them together.

Just two days ago I woke up to its screen not turning on, even though the battery was full. I restarted it and it worked normally from there. Today it doesn't sync.

This is very frustrating considering that this is an expensive gadget.

I have completely unpaired the ionic to the phone and am now trying to set it up again as if it was for the first time. My ionic is plugged on to my computer and the phone sits just next to it. when searching for the device to pair, it seems to find it for a split of a second and then a pop up appears saying there is an issue with the Bluetooth. I have no issues pairing my phone with other devices.

Please, HELP!

Honestly had enough of this, won't sync, notifications stop coming through calls not showing up and all the forum's say is basically start again which will work for a few days! It's going back as is nowhere ready to be called "smart" and at nearly £300 it is by far from good enough. I use a £30 smart watch for work that has none of these problems.

I was having that exact issue until I started cleaning the apps cache, now it syncs with out a problem. Good luck!

I'm having the same issue, even now.  I can't get the Fitbit to sync.  This has happened periodically, but usually it EVENTUALLY syncs.  But it's been more than a day now and I've had no luck.  I hate to remove the Ionic from my account and then set it up again, because I will lose my data from the last day and a half.  It's discouraging to spend this much on a watch and then have these issues. I did get the latest firmware update (that was a nightmare - took forever to get it to work).

This solution no longer works. I just spent 55 minutes trying to sync my Fitbit for a firmware update. My phone used 12% of it's battery life trying to connect.

It is clear Fitbit is not interested in fixing this (I have had this for months and it rarely syncs). It may be time to file a class action.

This solution doesn't work. Giving up after 55 minutes, and several months of flaky behavior
