Mobile Track stops recording steps

Hi everyone,

I'm just hoping some user has a fix here, because I just see the same suggestions posted multiple times on somewhat similar posts here. None of them work. I have a Samsung Note 10+ 5g (so, relatively new) with Android  OS 11 this time. Always keep it updated. I have been able to use Mobile track off and on, but it frequently cuts out and stops recording steps in the middle of my walks. Because of this, I can't even correct it by going on to the website and manually adding my steps(oh yeah, can we please get functionality to add 'Steps' on the app, not just online), because its random. I go into my 'account profile' and look at the paired devices, and it still shows the Mobile Track is still paired. I check settings and notifications are still on, all the required jazz.

I followed the steps suggested on here to unpair the 'device' in account profile, close app, reopen, and repair. This doesnt bring back my missed steps.

I get that Fitbit is doing its best to try to be compatible with a lot of different tech, and their main profit is device sales, but this is rather frustrating. It's hard enough to stay motivated to exercise on my healthy life journey with two kids and two jobs for the last 10 years, but when the tools you are trying to use to stay motivated are unreliable, it is just a kick i. The n*ts.

Any suggestions are helpful, thanks everyone in advance!

@mday01 Welcome to the forums. Thanks for the explanation. I can understand how frustrating it can be when the steps are not being counted. Something you expected to count towards your daily fitness goals. I personally do not use this feature and therefore I have not experienced any difficulties with it. Let me try use MobileTrack this weekend to see if I have the same experience as you. I also have an Android device with Android OS 11.

Note that you do have the option to log steps or activities on the Fitbit app. Take a look at this help article: . You can add a walk and steps will be added to your day.

However, I would like to know more. What exactly do you mean with "it cuts out". You wrote that MobileTrack is still listed as a paired device. Suddently the step count just stops? Does the Fitbit app remain open? When you open the Fitbit app again, will it display what you last saw or does it seem to load all over again? I think this could be related to the fact that apps are terminated by the OS to optimize battery consumption. The Fitbit app must be allowed to run in the background to fully function: Why does the Fitbit app need to run in the background on my Android phone?. That may be the reason it just stops counting steps. Please make sure the Fitbit app is allowed to run in the background on your smartphone.

Have a nice day!

As an example....I dont know if this link will work...

In the screenshot at that link, the timeperiod between 15:00 -17:00 has data there only because i manually logged into my account dsshboard online and added the steps. What was there is 2 hour blank spot. I still had my phone on me and the account profile still showed my "Mobile Track" as paired.

@mday01 Thanks for your prompt reply. I could not access the link. In this case, please make sure the Fitbit app is up to date and allowed to run in the background on your smartphone. Open the settings on your smartphone. Tap on "apps" and then tap on Fitbit. There you should be able to find settings for the battery consumption. The Fitbit app should not be restricted. Try that and then check if MobileTrack keeps counting your steps all the time.

Have a nice day!
