Fitbit Update: 5/3/18

Hi, everyone!

We released to 100% the next Fitbit for Android app update: 2.71. In this app version, we released the fix for this notifications issue. Please update your app!

You will see a new option in your Notifications Settings that reads "Vibration Settings," which is where you can toggle on/off if you want to receive notifications when your phone is set to Do not disturb or Silent mode.

I'm glad we could get this resolved for you all! Your patience was really appreciated.

Fitbit Update: 4/23

Hi all - Our team is currently working on a fix so you all can get your notifications back whenever in "Silent mode."

I don't know when the fix will be released but I will let you know once I have that information available. Thanks for your patience! Sounds like many of you are using the workaround to just put your phone on vibrate to the lowest setting. I appreciate everyone helping each other out and making suggestions for the time being.

Updated: 4/20

Hi, everyone!

Our team is aware of this Notification issue when you put your Android device in Silent mode. This began with the last app version 2.70.

If your phone is on Silent mode, notifications will not reach your watch/tracker. If you have silent mode off, your notifications will be received.

I will provide updates on this problem here. Please stay tuned! Thanks so much for your patience.

I don't know why their fix to DnD broke this function but it is effecting everyone. Hopefully they see all these posts on this subject and their replies and have a fix soon.

The update to the fitbit app on android simply reworded the error message. I want the ability to receive notifications on my watch when my phone is on silent. It makes no sense for my phone to vibrate as well as the watch on my wrist. The previous version worked perfectly fine. Please reintroduce this feature ASAP or roll back the notification updates, since they've made functionality worse instead of improving it.

Same issue here. I have a Blaze in a Galaxy S7. Fitbit has been receiving notifications on silent with no issues since I got it last July up until a few weeks ago. Then it stopped for a day or two because it decided I was in "do not disturb" (I wasn't). I recieved notifications on silent without issues all day yesterday. The fitbit app updated this morning, and now it says I won't get notifications because my phone is on silent. A major reason I bought the Blaze was to not miss notifications while on silent. I'm a lawyer, and having my phone on silent or vibrate isn't an option during the work day.

Any solutions would be much appreciated. This wasn't an issue until recently, and I'm not sure why the "feature" of no notifications on silent was even added.

Having the same exact issue all of a sudden. Never had the issue in the last few years I've owned several different types of fitbits. I cannot have my ringer on or vibrate that's the point of the notification! How do we fix?

With the new update, my phone Samsung s6 stated it would not push notifications to my ionic while it is on silent mode. This seems to be a huge design flaw. Why would I want my phone to notify me and then get the same notifiaction on my watch?? I like having phone on silent and then get the small buzz on my wrist when I get a message. I don't need or want to have both.

It would be better if we had the choice to be notified even on silent mode for those of us who want this particular set up. Those that prefer having their phone buzz/make noise and then get a buzz on their wrist should be able to do that as well. Please go back to how it was!!!

Same.

I am so happy to hear you are not the only one with this problem!  That is the stupidest thing not being able to receive notifications if the ringer is completely off!  I don't want an early morning text to wake up my spouse just because I have to keep the ringer on!  I always have my phone on silent and couldn't figure out why I was not receiving any notifications on my Ionic!  I never had any issues with my Alta and getting notifications.   If I could return the Ionic and go back to the Alta I would but it's too late!

This has really annoyed me. One of the reasons for my fitbit is the notifications when the phone is on silent

Saw there were other posts like this but thought there should be another one, maybe FitBit will see them that way. Up until the last app update (Android) notifications worked great for texts and phone calls even if you had your phone set to silent (no ringer, no vibration). Now you see a message in the app's notification settings stating that notifications will not be sent if your phone is in silent mode.

I like many other users keep their phone in silent mode most of the time and using the FitBit (Alta) to get notifications was great. Not sure what the rationale is behind this update but it should be something that is user configurable. Let the users decide if a silent phone means no FitBit notifications.

I can't stress this enough but this really takes away a ton of the usefulness of a FitBit.

Same problem here. This cannot continue to happen! I NEVER have my ringer on.

I sent an email through the Google Play store to the programmers.  Hoping that helps us.  I'm sure you saw the big Do Not Disturb issue which was the start for this issue.  Silent was read as DND.

Best Answer

Okay, CWINNYK, the back way to force notifications on a Note 8, turn on vibrate and set the intensity to zero.  Just remember when you need vibrate to reset the intensity.

This works on the Galaxy s8 too. We shouldn't have to be adjusting the vibrate setting for the notifications to be working.

I agree.  This is the most ridiculous design decision I have ever seen.  See attached screenshot.  It's so ridiculous, it's actually funny!  The whole point of Fitbit notifications is so your phone can be on silent!!!!

LOL!!!!!!!  This has effectively made my Ionic useless for notifications!

In the interim while waiting for this issue to be resolved, I have gone in and turned my phone to vibrate but basically set everything to no intensity. Silly that I have to do something like this which is basically the same thing as it being on silent

Hope this issue gets fixed soon.

I've been looking all day,  wondering why i'm not being notified about my texts and calls. I have a charge 2, and I honestly don't really have a reason to wear it anymore.  That was my favorite part.

Thanks, I did this and that works.  Hopefully Fitbit fixes this soon.

I agree, useless modification when there are still other things that are legitimately broken....

Is it possible to have a toggle or an option to decide whether if this rule is activated, for both silent mode and Do Not Disturb?

I have a Google Pixel XL which does not have a silent mode other than Do Not Disturb. When I adjust my phone settings, the steps go from Ringer - Vibrate - Do Not Disturb.

I would like to keep my phone in Do Not Disturb, but all notifications to still come through my fitness tracker.

Same here. The notifications on my Fitbit are crucial throughout my day.
