Sleep tracker update is terrible

The latest update to the sleep tracker is terrible. I used to be able to really look at my different levels of sleep and gain useful information.  This new graph is cluttered and confusing and practically useless to me. The sleep tracker was my favorite feature before. Please bring it back the way it was.

Hello everyone. Thanks for your feedback about the new layout for the sleep logs. Here I share with you a way to at least check the list of sleep logs with the previous interface. Follow these instructions:

Go to the exercise tile on the Fitbit app. Tap on any exercise log and on the top right corner tap on the icon to "share". The icon consists of 3 dots connected by two lines. Once you tap on it, you get different logs (activity, sleep, badges, etc.) from your account to share. Tap on "sleep" and you will be able to see the list of your sleep logs with the previous interface. If you select one log to share, you will also see the old sleep stages graph (in case these were recorded). I am not sure how long this workaround will be available. Give it a try and let me know. This also works for your exercise logs.

However, please note that the same information you find on the new interface. The difference is that the information is presented differently and with another colour palette. Tap and hold the graph to get more information out of it. You can swipe while holding and you can check the different stages.

1) Unfortunately these instructions don't work for me: I don't see the
share icon anywhere.
2) The statement that the 'same information is available' under the new
interface is incorrect: in the sleep schedule view I can no longer see 'cat
naps' taken during the day. This information is important to me for
monitoring sleep quality.

How did you do it??

I would like to see the times at the bottom every hour like before. Surely the color blind would like that too.  Also the graph history all on the same page.  Naps separate from total sleep. Fitbit thinks I’m napping when I’m watching TV so I always deleted those.
thanks

@David1947 Thanks for your reply.

  1. Which smartphone do you have? I have an Android device and I find it under the exercie logs. Open the exercise tile, tap on an exercise. Top right corner you find the share icon.
  2. Please note that you find naps in the daily log. When you open the main sleep log for today, scroll down to see the other sleep logs like naps.

It does not show sleep score any more. I know how to use app.

@sanbro26 I've come to the conclusion since I've been having issues nearly a year now, but moreover the last 5 months, that fitbit only blames the users. They're not to blame for *any* of the issues on the user end. They're above reproach. We don't know how to use our watch, we don't know how to use the app nor sync them properly, we don't know how to charge our watch, etc. The list is a mile long of what we - the consumers - are incapable of doing. Guess what percentage is their fault? Yep, none. If you read other threads you'll see not just what I'm saying, but how many people are leaving fitbit because of a myriad of reasons. Namely because they have no customer service anymore. But their blame game is strong.

That's not true. We've been complaining about the redesign of the sleep UI since 3/28/2024, and have now about 2,600 votes. It has now been nearly 3 months and it has not gotten any attention from Google/Fitibit. When Challenges were gutted, we also used that section to ask that we keep challenges, yet you selfishly removed them.

If these issues aren't addressed, you will lose me as a customer, as I now have no interest in buying any new Fitbit models.

I totally agree. And now about ninety per cent of the time, it will only track the last 3 1/2 hours of my sleep.

Bring back the original sleep features. I will be canceling the service if it's not back soon and I'll go to a different watch.

I agree. The new sleep tracker is useless. The changes made recently do not help. This will be my last Fitbit. I might as well get a basic watch.

For me, it doesn't have the detail I want. It doesn't allow me to see exact times anymore, and it's now just very confusing.

Surely, the app is designed to support its users so I think it would be a mistake to dismiss the opinions of these users.

I agree with others, if this is not addressed, I will at the very least cancel premium, and look for a more suitable device, as this was the most important feature for me, as it appears it was for many others too.

Agree that the 2024 Sleep Tracking updates read less efficiently.  Overall, everything from TODAY’s oversized dashboard and all the extra ‘white space’ in between components (Activity, Health, Sleep, etc.) to the Sleep Timeline’s graph format change requires more scrolling or action to obtain the desired information.  I do understand wanting to ensure those with visual impairments are able to see the data… However, info that was once easily viewable simply feels less accessible with each update.  I say this as a former analyst for over 20 years, someone that’s suffered from early cataracts and retinal tears (i.e. my own vision issues) and a loyal user of FitBit for several years.  Despite my frustration with all the FB App changes, I am pleased that the company and developers seem to be listening to concerns about the Sleep Tracking.  Enough to warrant wearing my Sense again, and for that I’m grateful : )  I hope they continue to take steps to regain functionality and efficiencies that have been stripped away.

I’m also struggling with the Sleep Tracking / Timeline view changes with the 2024 software updates, but the Apple Watch is no replacement for FitBit.

I’ve found all my Apple Watches uncomfortable to sleep in compared to the Versa and Sense.  Whether it’s my 45mm dating back to the small sized Series 3,  I’ve always had both due to FB’s comfort & sleep tracking.  Versa and Sense in particular.

FB’s tracking was viewer and user friendly - with easily accessible info with efficient and simple editing.  I am hoping enough people voice their frustration to invoke FitBit to return their App to what was already near-perfection.  Note I also found the Sleep Apps for Apple Watch incredibly cumbersome vs FB.  Way too much involvement required.  My Apple Watches have never seemed to capture steps like FB either.

After the latest July 2024 software update / changes to the Sleep Tracking, I honestly quit wearing my FB for almost a week and was close to chucking it in a drawer permanently…  And I’ve loved FB - had various models for 4-5 years.  BUT, I put it back on / slept in last night and it appears that they have at least brought back the visibility to REM and Deep Sleep.

 I’m not a FB employee… merely sharing my own experiences : )

I completely agree. Since Google took over Fitbit, it has only gone downhill.

Someone mentioned that the UI design was made for better accessibility and I hear you. I work on front end software and that is super important but they definitely could have handled it differently. Instead of removing all the more detailed information completely, they could have made it accessible in another way and I find it very hard to believe that they couldn't improve the UI and accessibility without removing key information. It's software. There are always a dozen ways to do something, I think they chose wrong. That's not a negative remark to the developers because I know how it works. The higher-ups design and tell you what to do, and you do it. But the choices Google has been making are questionable.

Outside of the UI, the sleep tracker seems so much more inaccurate then it used to be. Fitbit used to have one of the most accurate sleep tracker software out there and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. It's disappointing since I have had my Fitbit for quite a while now and loved it but I'll have to consider finding something new now. That's just the way it is I guess.

Just wanted to paste part of my message here as well.

AGREED. The new sleep app update continues to be horrible. Companies like
Google get so big, as a giant they no longer feel they have to list to
anyone but themselves. They become mini-gods in that they believe their
decisions are perfect and beyond questioning.

MY answer to this status they have placed themselves on is that I have left
Fitbit never to return. Previously, I bought the next Fitbit product in
their line as it included new and better features. I can never go back to
Fitbit nor any of its products. Oura Ring is great and [so far] they pay
attention to their owners

Agreed! Even after giving it some time to see if it will grow on me, I find the Fitbit app sleep tracker info now to be so poorly presented it's almost useless. The old view was much better. I'll be going back to just using the Sleep Cycle app. No wrist watch required and the results seem more accurate than what my Fitbit has been showing lately.

This workaround displays the original graph with some missing information. Thank you

I just wanted to add input the new sleep schedule on the main dashboard is bad. My constructive feedback is to revert it to the original more detailed sleep graph which accurately displayed information throughout the night.
