Fitbit Update: 9/12/19

Hey all!

We're still investigating and working on a fix for this text notification issue on Android.

In addition to not receiving the correct text notification, we're now aware this is also affecting call notifications. Some of you may only see a previous caller's name and not the person actually calling you at the time you're receiving the notification.

When we have more information for a fix, we'll announce it here in this thread. Please stay tuned for updates!

Fitbit Update: 7/30/19

Hi everyone.

We're aware of these issues with receiving only the sender's name from your text messages. This appears to have started with the Fitbit for Android app version 3.0. If you're experiencing this yourself with your Fitbit device, please know we're working on a fix.

While our team investigates this further, we just ask for your patience. Once I have information for a fix, I'll make an announcement here on this thread.

I wonder what's happening that some people are getting this functionality back. I still don't have it and I don't think the Fitbit app has been updated in the period that people have begun reporting that it's working again. It signals to me that this is a server-side issue...which then makes me wonder why there would need to be a backend anywhere outside of the actual app for this to be working. I mean I understand that the Fitbit app has access to my notifications but I don't recall giving permission to allow those notifications to be sent to a remote server.

Can anyone offer any insight into this?

Really? What is the version number of the app?

Those who say it is working? Which version do you have for Android. According to google play there was a 8/30 release of 3.5. Is this the one? Has it been working for others? What day did you download.

There are so many comments on this thread so the more specific you can be the better

I have version 3.5, updated last week.  Using an S8.  Callers are hit or miss if they're correct (usually right though) and texts notifications show sender name and message now.

Was able to receive text messages but sender name only and calendar notifications.  However with the last update, I am not even getting any text messages at all.  Not even the sender names.  I am getting calendar notifications tho.  I tried using different sms apps and no change.   I have also clear Bluetooth cache and restarted the app (force stop) Any wise tech people out there know what's happening?

Has anyone else running version 2.95 had all notifications stop? It was working fine and all of a sudden everything stopped. So... I tried 3.5 for the third time. I think everyone can guess how that went. Also reinstalled 2.95. Nothing.

Makes me wonder just what the heck is going on with Fitbit. Other than terrible support and customer service!

Was hoping to get a couple more months out of my Charge 2 before buying a different product. But with no notifications, looks like it's bye bye Fitbit.

Yes, I had the same thing happen to me where 2.95 stopped working for me, too. I just reinstalled that version and it started working again. Not sure why. Fitbit needs to come up with an update that truly works for everyone to put this issue to rest, but after several months we are losing faith in their ability to do just that. They are losing lots of customers as a result.

I'm having the exact same problem with texts not coming through at all any more. Everything else works. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling.....nothing.

Samsung S10e Android 9 (Pie)

Fitbit Charge 2 Firmware version 22.22.55.2   (I have not updated the firmware since I know I can't go backwards on that and don't want to make a bad thing worse. My husband updated his Charge 3 firmware and now has sync issues.)

I tried the Aug 30 update. Received message notification with name and text but phone call Caller ID was wrong so back to version 2.9 (2.95 was giving me wrong caller name all of the sudden so I tried 2.9)

Curious if anyone updated the firmware?

I would also suggest in future posts, when you are reporting what is and is not working, people can include their phone and Fitbit model, firmware version and app version. I would be interested in seeing if we could see a pattern.

@Swimmom1245 Just curious, How do you go back to old version of app or firmware?   I want to roll back to version that is working.

Sync your tracker so it's up to date.

Delete the Fitbit app

Download a copy of the app from a mirror (there's a couple that save copies of old apps but the forums blocks the words needed to refer to it (A__p__k__mirror) is the name of a quality site.

You save the file to your phone. It will install similar to how you install a program on your computer. The phone may let you know it blocks installing from "unknown sources" for security purposes. If you trust where the app came from then enable unknown sources and install it.

Also go to the Google play store and disable auto updates for all apps. It seems to ignore the settings for just a specific app like Fitbit so you need it for all apps otherwise the broken version will update overnight.

@pizzaboy192 wow.  Detailed info.  Thanks!!  Now I just need to find which app version and firmware version works.  Do you recall?

@hulagirl88 everyone says 2.90 works best, 2.95 worked ok but caller ID would go weird every couple days. I just gave up and installed an app called Fit Notifications that bypasses the issue so I can use the latest app.

@hulagirl88 Firmware version 22.22.55.2 and app version 2.9 works for me on Samsung S10e Android 9 with a Charge 2.

Thanks @Swimmom1245 @pizzaboy192

I am going to rollback to 2.9.  I thought about 3rd party app too so may check fit notification out.

**UPDATE** downloading the 2.9 version was easy thanks to the very clear instruction.  Unfortunately text still didn’t work because I can’t roll back my firmware version.  Using fit notification app for now until Fitbit tech support can help.  Thanks all!
