US Barcode Scanner not working

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The barcode scanner fails to scan anything. Restarting the app/phone doesn't work. Rotating the phone (solution for Nexus) doesn't work. Signing out and back in doesn't work. I double checked and made sure I was using the US Database. What am I missing here? Every single thing I eat, I'm having to enter manually because anything that I search for is inaccurate. Its also annoying that when I go back and look at nutrition facts for my items, it shows Vitamins as zero but doesn't give an option to put them in there. If I'm putting everything else in there manually, I may as well put those in too.

Charge HR (not that it matters) and an LG Stylo V2.

HI there @MiniTux, good to see you here in the Fitbit Community! Certainly this issue is not common and thank you for letting me know you have tried some solutions on your own.

I'm wondering if you are seeing any error at the moment to scan  food? Also let me know what type of food you are logging?

Regarding the issue that your nutritional facts is not showing data, make sure that the food you are logging is existent in our food data base, the same goes for the barcode scanner.

I'm not sure if you tried already the following, but perhaps a full restart will do the trick:

Log out from your Fitbit app and go to your phone settings. Access to the App manager option and look for the Fitbit app in your downloaded apps list. Once you are there, clear the app cache and data and proceed to "Force Stop" the app. Finish the workaround by restarting your phone. When your phone has initialized, go back to your app and try again.

Hope this helps and let me know how it goes.

Sorry for the delay.
I was initially attempting to scan some Bagels from Aldi. When that didn't
work, I tried something more common (Cheerios). Nothing. Just says "still
searching." No error message. Yes, I've tried all restarts possible and
nothing changes.

Hello @MiniTux, thank you for the additional details and my apologies for my absence. I will forward these details to our team to keep investigating the source of this issue.

In the meantime If the food item does not appear within the search results, create a custom food by tapping Custom > Add Custom Food.

If something new comes up, I will let you know.

Alright. Well, thanks for getting back to me. I've just settled for not
recording my food until the problem is fixed. I just dont have the time to
log everything manually. Please keep me posted.

Hey @MiniTux I'm seeing the same behavior on my Nexus 5X running Android 8.1.0. The one time I got it to successfully scan a barcode (a box of Life cereal) it matched it to something completely incorrect (some lunchmeat).

It's unfortunate it does not work very well.

Amazing. At least I'm not the only one.
