Why won't Fitbit devices sync to Android 11?

Has anyone been able to find a solution to the syncing/pairing problems with Fitbit and Android 11?  My Charge 2 is not paired to my phone anymore and I cannot get it to pair now.  My Fitbit will not sync and I'm not getting any exercise, heart, or sleep data on my app.  I do not have a Mac product to use in the interim and I don't know how to fix this.  I've also asked Android if there is a fix coming.  I wanted to buy a new Fitbit but from other posts it seems this is for any Fitbit on Android 11.  Is that true?  Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?  I don't have a Windows 10 app and again, no Mac products.

I have a Pixel 3a and had the same experience. Working perfectly until the Android 11 update. Then wouldn't sync. Unpaired and tried to pair again. I can get the code to show up on my Alta but it doesn't work after that. Not thrilled Fitbit support tried to help for just a couple minutes and then deemed it "defected" and gave me a discount. Following in case someone finds a solution.

I have charge 3 , since the beginning of Oct( 2020) my android galaxy 10 phone is not syncing as well. I've gone thru all the suggestions.  I was considering an upgrade, now not so sure this unit just turned 1yr. Old in Sept.

Thank you to all who have replied. I never got a fix and neither Fitbit nor Android had any suggestions. I used my Fitbit for all my workout tracking, calorie tracking, etc. so I really didn't want to go without for longer. Since it is easier and cheaper to replace the tracker than my phone, I had to quit using the Fitbit. I bought a Garmin smartwatch and it's working great with my Pixel. I would have stayed and upgraded with Fitbit, but the sync issue made that impossible. I wish everyone else luck and truly hope Fitbit & Android figure this out soon for you all!

I'm in the same boat. I'm not buying a new phone and I feel a little abandoned by Fitbit and Android. Hope you like the Garmin smartwatch!

Yes, I have been looking for over a month myself. I do not like to waste
money and it makes me upset. From Flex2 all the devices following to
current Versa2, adds to my frustration. I can not count on my device to
work with minor inconveniences. All technology has them, usually minimal
for fitbit or I would,ve jumped ship long ago. I have discovered from so
many of us sharing not just complaining, does no good, is draining, most
importantly unproductive. I've been all over our community gathering
information regardless of device, android, IOS, etc. there's a lot of
useful information from other consumers that has brought improvement. For
me I believe I am at the final stage to finish the nightmare for myself.
I did share today to Stephanie47's post, steps that were successful for me
and some others that did them as well. Bringing me to one last issue,
hopefully the waste of my time it has been, added wrinkles, etc will
finally be free:) She is in the IOS area of community.

Ok so unfortunately I don't know exactly what I did to get mine to sync/pair.. but I did some research on the Android 11 update and it said it made some changes with blue tooth, specifically not letting it sync as often. So I went to settings, searched "blue tooth" and then Wifi and Bluetooth scanning to make sure it was on. I messed with a few of the others and it worked. Fingers crossed it keeps working. I have a Charge 2 and a Pixel 2.

I just upgraded to the s20 fe Samsung and I am getting that I need an app in order to sync. I need it paired to my phone for notifications like my texts and phone calls. This is super annoying ugh

Which post by Stephanie47 are you referring to? I couldn't find it. I am having the same issue on pixel 3 with android 11 update for both Alta HR and Charge 2.

I bought a Fitbit Sense to replace my Galaxy WatchActive 2 because of the EKG feature...but after all this and no response from FitBit at the least acknowledging this issue I'm just going to return it. My WatchActive2 works with Android 11 and I wont have to pay for Premium services that come free from Samsung.

Thank you so much! This worked for me. I've been trying for days to sync my charge 2 to my pixel 2 since Android 11 update. Searching for WiFi and Bluetooth scanning and turning the Bluetooth scanning setting on has sorted it. 😊

Yep, same problem. It's been about 2 months of only being able to sync with my charge 2 after syncing it to my Mac ever since my Pixel 3 XL updated to Android 11. I'm sure it would be updated in a snap with any newer Fitbit devices but, instead, it's painfully obvious Fitbit is creating a system of planned obsolescence simply by not updating in a timely manner (or ever...I guess we'll see).

Not buying another Fitbit, that's for sure. Wasted hours on this.

Alta HR. Google Pixel 3.  Android 11.  My Alta HR was connecting/syncing just fine also before either the update to Android 11 or one of the last updates to the Fitbit app.  I have contacted customer service and they kindly offered to allow me to ship back my device and purchase a replacement.

Can we expect a fix for these devices any time soon?  Please do not reply with the generic "turn off/on Bluetooth" or "uninstall/reinstall the app" because we've all tried it and it doesn't work.

I just got Android 11 on my Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G. It syncs just fine but refuses to change watch faces and load apps. Fitbit refuses to do any since they haven't added any S20 devices as supported.

After trying absolutely everything I could think of to fix this on the problematic Android 11 device, I found a workaround by using another Android device with an earlier Android version ( in my case - 10).

  • Sign out of the Fitbit app on the problematic Android 11 device
  • Sign into the Fitbit app on another Android device (earlier than 11)
  • Set up the Fitbit tracker as normal. I found that it froze while pairing, so I rebooted the phone. After that the Fitbit app said that the tracker was paired.
  • Check that the tracker syncs with the app
  • Sign out of the Fitbit app on the pre Android 11 phone
  • Sign into the Fitbit app on the Android 11 phone
  • The tracker should now sync correctly

It looks like the tracker pairs with your Fitbit account instead of the device via Bluetooth.

I hope that this helps others. It may even work by pairing via an iPhone though I don't have one to test with.

This workaround also worked for me. I used an old Samsung S4 Mini running
Android 4.4.2 to sync with my Alta HR then logged into the Fitbit app on my
Google Pixel 3 running Android 11 and it is now syncing fine.

Thanks BudDaDude! I've spent ages trying to get sync working with my Charge 2 on my Pixel 3. For a while I was just using an old Oppo phone to sync. Now it's syncing on my Pixel 3 at last.

I logged out of the Fitbit app on my Pixel 3, as well as my Oppo. Rebooted both phones, then logged into the Fitbit app on my Oppo, which synced just fine. Logged out from the Fitbit app on it, rebooted the Charge 2, waited a few minutes, then logged into the Fitbit app on my Pixel 3 - et voila, it synced straight away.

It's still syncing fine 12 hours later, hopefully that's the end of it.

I don't know why it had to be this hard...
