I'm having trouble of late with the widget not updating unless I physically open the app - which sort of defeats the purpose of using a widget. I'm running Android 11 on a Pixel 3, stock launcher, and everything is all up-to-date. I also reset the data and cache on the app, and verified it's allowed to run at all times in the background.

I've done these things. Even u installed app and factory reset the watch. After reinstall still same issue. I'm thinking latest firmware update caused it, although unsure of exact date I noticed this. Really unhappy about it.

I have the exact same issue on my Pixel 4 running Android 11.
Did the steps suggested above, but the issue is still there. Any suggestion?

I agree. I'm having the same problem with my Charge 2. I don't know when they made this change but it seems kinda dumb.
I was thinking of upgrading to a Versa 2, 3, or Sense but this kind of stuff kinda sours me on Fitbit once again. Especially when I look back on all the similar weird problems I've had with them over the years, usually due to the Android app.

Widgets haven't updated on their own in a long time. Not even sure what the point of these Fitbit Moderators are. They give me flashes of the IT Crowd, where Roy just has a pre-recorded message answering his phone with "Did you turn it off and back on again?" to all tech requests.
Anyway, I thought maybe once Fitbit had finished being purchased by Google, there'd be some competent Android engineers added to the team or something, but widgets continue to pretty much only update after you've opened the actual app. I have four friends with Fitbits and Android phones, and all five us have this exact issue, and while that's fairly anecdotal, I'm fairly confident in assuming it's not some isolated issue, especially since one of my friends got widgets to work again by sideloading a much older version of the Fitbit app that coincidence or not, still had the option to checkmark all day sync, which was removed a while back.

Funnily enough, my widget started working by itself a few days ago. Not sure why, but hey!

I have had intermittent instances of it updating on it's own and then not. But mostly have to open the app and update the connection between watch and phone.

My widget suddenly stopped working, too. My app stopped running, so I was forced to uninstall and reinstall. Once I added the widget back, it wouldn't run at all.
