Blaze can provide Call, Text, and Calendar notifications so that you can stay connected!

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the content of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Blaze, please see this help page

Setup Steps:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby! Note that you'll only receive notifications on your tracker when your mobile device is within this radius.
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap Notifications, and then turn on call notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, look at the list of Bluetooth-connected devices on your mobile device. Your tracker name should appear.

Using Alerts:

You can easily see all of your alerts by swiping up from the home screen. Here, you'll see previous incoming calls, text messages for the day, and calendar alerts as well. You may delete these alerts either individually or all at once.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App. Please also ensure that message preview is toggled on in your phone's settings, as this should help populate the message content.
  • iOS users should allow reception of text notifications in their Notification Center settings, in addition to the workflow for alerts in the Fitbit app for iOS.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or select 3rd party apps on Android.
  • Windows Phones don't support alerts at this time.
  • Fitbit trackers currently don't support emojis. Notifications containing emojis will show a blank square, instead of the emoji that was sent.
  • Text messages won't show up if the message app is open on your phone.
  • When using Message+, your Fitbit tracker will show a notification that looks something like this: (Contact Name – 1 New Message). This is because when messages are received in Message+, they're stored that way in the notifications center on Android.
  • If you receive more than one text message in succession from the same person, your tracker may group the messages together as "2 New Messages" or "3 New Messages" instead of showing a preview of the message text.

Is there a way to stop getting 2 messages for every text notification? I get the first text and then immediately a duplicate with the time added.

Maybe try turning off the time stamp setting in your messaging program on your phone. That seemed to get rid of the problem for me.

Well the instruction says "if you have an IOS device", which are apple products. I am guessing you don't have an iPhone since your post says "Posted from Samsung."

the content of text messages were showing this morning but not any more.  I've reset both my blaze and the GS6 - no improvement.  This is very strange.  is anyone using encryption?  could that be the issue?

I have a 5X and I'm experiencing the same problem. I think the phones are supported even though not listed. Supported phones might only be due to the BT stack being at least 4.0 or greater. But I could be wrong. Does anyone with a listed supported phone have the same issue where the blaze buzzes with a notification of incoming call when you make an outgoing call? Definitely a bug if that is the case.

I do not have a notifications setting that comes up on my iPhone 4s when I tap the the tracker tile in my fitbit mobile app. Please do print screens to show where this is. Is this not available for iPhone 4s?

Very disappointed that the Blaze is NOT compatible with the Galaxy Note 5... might consider returning..

Notifications stopped working at one point today (first day of ownership). Fixed it by turning off all notifications, syncing the settings, and then turning notifications back on. Pretty annoying, hope this doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the solution.  I have an iPhone 6s Plus and the call notifications were not working on my Blaze.  Happy to see that they are functioning correctly now.

Happy I could help @project! Hopefully this is a bug that they squish in the future. I'd prefer to not have to reset notifications like this every time they stop working.

@EmersonFitbit I posted about the call notification saying you have an incoming call when I make an outgoing call. Is there any confirmation of this other than the original poster with this issue? Is there a way to make it stop other than turning off incoming call notifications?

Also, there are a few things about the device that need to be improved and bugs fixed. On notifications there is no emoji which has been noted. Will there be a software or firmware update to fix this? A lot of people use emoji almost exclusively and this is a severe oversight and a possible deal breaker for some users. Also duplicate Whatsapp notification is an issue as well. The point being if these are things that can and will be fixed it's acceptable to hang in there. But if not, then we should be informed. Thanks.

@bjanow Thanks for tagging me back in!

  • I haven't seen many instances of outgoing notifications happening for our users, but I'm investigating. I've seen limited reports of this happening with our Charge devices, but haven't yet seen it for Blaze. In @KisaraKaiba's case, I wouldn't rule it out of the realm of possibilities, since the device in question isn't currently optimized/compatible to begin with. On that same train of thought, though, we're always working on improving/adding to that list.
  • Emoji's aren't supported at this time, nor can I confirm whether that will be a feature down the road. I'm sure that message notifications were drawn up, they were done so with traditional characters in mind. Since our devices aren't exclusive to one OS, I imagine that it'd be difficult to support emojis in the same way that some messaging systems (email, iOS to Android, etc.) don't do it. More to come on that- I'll ask the firmware teams.
  • I've filed a ticket for the multiple alerts for message mishap. I'll provide more information when the time comes.

@KisaraKaiba @EmersonFitbit

Kisara I see you have a N6P and I have a 5X which are very similar phones in terms of Google images and firmware. Do you have a custom rom and if so which one? Emerson, everything on the device works even though it doesn't say it is supported. I had called support a couple of days ago asking what that meant and was told, perhaps incorrectly, that it was the BT stack 4.0 and above that dictated support for many or all of the functionality. I get notifications from Whatsapp, Hangouts, incoming calls and everything seems to be working. I think I just figured out the GPS thing and getting a map of my route but I've yet to try it. I'll do that today. If they can isolate the incoming call notification bug then I'd almost say add it (n5x) to the list of supported devices unless there is something I'm missing.

edit: I did get gps to map my walk today. I see that only walk, run, hike are gps-able and I have to start it on my phone. Is that correct. As for the incoming call notification when placing an outgoing call I see now that it's only a matter of the display showing "incoming" instead of outgoing as it should. Definitely a bug on my device.

When you get the pop up on your phone if you have it set to only see who the message is from then that's all that will show on the blaze. You have to enable the full message in your phone messages.
