Blaze can provide Call, Text, and Calendar notifications so that you can stay connected!

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the content of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Blaze, please see this help page

Setup Steps:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby! Note that you'll only receive notifications on your tracker when your mobile device is within this radius.
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap Notifications, and then turn on call notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, look at the list of Bluetooth-connected devices on your mobile device. Your tracker name should appear.

Using Alerts:

You can easily see all of your alerts by swiping up from the home screen. Here, you'll see previous incoming calls, text messages for the day, and calendar alerts as well. You may delete these alerts either individually or all at once.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App. Please also ensure that message preview is toggled on in your phone's settings, as this should help populate the message content.
  • iOS users should allow reception of text notifications in their Notification Center settings, in addition to the workflow for alerts in the Fitbit app for iOS.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or select 3rd party apps on Android.
  • Windows Phones don't support alerts at this time.
  • Fitbit trackers currently don't support emojis. Notifications containing emojis will show a blank square, instead of the emoji that was sent.
  • Text messages won't show up if the message app is open on your phone.
  • When using Message+, your Fitbit tracker will show a notification that looks something like this: (Contact Name – 1 New Message). This is because when messages are received in Message+, they're stored that way in the notifications center on Android.
  • If you receive more than one text message in succession from the same person, your tracker may group the messages together as "2 New Messages" or "3 New Messages" instead of showing a preview of the message text.

I activated Hangouts as my SMS default app on my phone, so now both my SMS text messages and Hangout chats come through to my Blaze. It is a little clunky on my phone to use both but not horrible.

I can receive text messages and voicemails occasionally, but my blaze does not vibrate at all!  Tech support was notified yesterday and said that they will be back in touch as the technicians are working on the problem!!!!  Cee

It has been posted many times on how we got our messages to work Check out the thread...I will post it one more time...

go to the fit bit app and tap the top of the screen where it shows the blaze picture, when you tap on it,it will show the blaze again, tap that then tap call notifications, text notifications and see if they are turned on. If they are on turn them off then shut of the bluetooth....Then do the same thing and turn them back on then turn on the blue tooth again this has worked for many of us.

Yeah...and I said I already followed those steps.... To those of you that are still having trouble reading your text messages on your blaze: I spoke with fitbit. There is a known problem on android devices where you cannot use message+ or you will just get the notification and not be able to read the text. You have to change to the messaging app that came with the device. Then you will be able to read the messages. They are working on this problem and said they will email all blaze owners once it's fixed. Hope this helps!!!

@LoganCMD@EmersonFitbit, any luck?

I also cannot get iMessage to work, all other notifcations work fine. I have tried everything, enable/disable notifcations, restarts, bluetooth on/off, etc...

@dmason508 No luck and no one seems to care. I was told I'd get an email back from support within a day after they checked with the highler levels of support, and I said that's fine--but don't send me the standard list of troubleshooting steps because we've established I've already done those. He said that was fine.

What did they send me? The standard list of troubleshooting steps.

And now even @EmersonFitbit is no where to be found, and so far has offered no help beyond "it works for me!"

I'm calling support now and if they can't fix it, I'm returning it. Companies have GOT to learn how to have effective technical and customer support.

Well I've figured out my own personal problem.

My iMessages was set up to notify my phone, but I was not having those notifications stored in Notification Center. That means my phone buzzes and shows the text on the lock screen when I get an iMessage, but then it goes away. If I look at the lock screen 15 minutes later, the txt is not still there.

Apparently you have to have it set to collect those notifications in Notification Center for it to work, which is pretty unfortunate if you ask me. The way I had it set up before was a good way of reducing notification clutter on my phone. But I guess until FitBit works something else out, I'll have to live with it this way to get notifications on my Blaze

May I ask what device you are currently using for Fitbit?

@LoganCMD I just received by Blaze last night and fought with this for sometime and was litterally just about to post about this, with IOS you must have the Show in Notification Center option turned on for the notifications to work.

Since many IOS users seem to be saying it works for them without any issues I assume most have that set, I personally do not want them in there but I will live with with this workaround for now.

I guess I will open a trouble ticket with Fitbit and hopefully they will release a fix at somepoint.

Thanks @LoganCMD, but no go for me.

I also had display in notification center disabled, so I was hopeful this would work. I enabled it, but still no go.

What type of alert do you have? I am using banner. I may try to change that.

OK, it worked!

Nice find @LoganCMD

After turning on the notfication center option, I had to restart bluetooth and disabled / enabled notifications in the fitbit app.

I've been excited for a new Fitbit that operates likes a smart watch. When first herd about the Fitbit Blaze I was ready to go purchase it. I was late to get the Blaze. On day three of the release I went to a Best Buy that was close to my residence and the large size was sold out. I waited for the weekend and proceeded to a Best Buy in a larger city and I was able to pick up a large. When I opened the box I was initially empresses until I saw that the charging cable was different from all of the other products and that it looked silly. So I pressed the Fitbit out of the watch and rested it into this box thing that's supposed to charge my device. I closed it and the Fitbit logo came on once I plugged in the cord. After ten minutes I assumed that I could get some life out of this watch so I took it out of the charger and inserted the square into the watch band. Nothing happened when I tried to power it on. I tried charging it on a charging pack and on a computer. Nothing..... It surprises me to know that such I highly anticipated product is a complete fail. It's also disappointing because I have a huge following with Fitbit competitors. I hope that I can exchange the device (now that I'm in my small town) for one that works. I have a challenge starting tomorrow. Sadly I will be wearing the HR.

Problem with notifications: vibrator very weak, cannot feel it on wrist. Therefore I don't know when I receive a call, message, calendar or wake up alert. I have checked this several time. The notifications work, the alarms work, just almost no vibration. I have a Charge HR that has strong vibrations, so I know when it works well. Blaze vibration not working well. Is this design issue (Which means returning Blaze), or a individual watch problem that is fixable. Any one else have this problem?

Follow up: just checked others in community. Vibration problem seems to be a design issue. Poor vibration reduces alerts to useless. I will return Blaze and go back to Charge HR and hope they fix the problem in the next version.
