Blaze can provide Call, Text, and Calendar notifications so that you can stay connected!

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the content of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Blaze, please see this help page

Setup Steps:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby! Note that you'll only receive notifications on your tracker when your mobile device is within this radius.
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap Notifications, and then turn on call notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, look at the list of Bluetooth-connected devices on your mobile device. Your tracker name should appear.

Using Alerts:

You can easily see all of your alerts by swiping up from the home screen. Here, you'll see previous incoming calls, text messages for the day, and calendar alerts as well. You may delete these alerts either individually or all at once.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App. Please also ensure that message preview is toggled on in your phone's settings, as this should help populate the message content.
  • iOS users should allow reception of text notifications in their Notification Center settings, in addition to the workflow for alerts in the Fitbit app for iOS.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or select 3rd party apps on Android.
  • Windows Phones don't support alerts at this time.
  • Fitbit trackers currently don't support emojis. Notifications containing emojis will show a blank square, instead of the emoji that was sent.
  • Text messages won't show up if the message app is open on your phone.
  • When using Message+, your Fitbit tracker will show a notification that looks something like this: (Contact Name – 1 New Message). This is because when messages are received in Message+, they're stored that way in the notifications center on Android.
  • If you receive more than one text message in succession from the same person, your tracker may group the messages together as "2 New Messages" or "3 New Messages" instead of showing a preview of the message text.

Sending a test text to myself using my own phone does not work (I get the text, but no notification chime on my phone or buzz on my Blaze), but sending from another phone does. Just putting that out there in case someone else tries a text from their own phone and thinks it might not be working at all.

Ahh, I understand. Thanks for clarifying @nlmux

I agree that since earlier models of the S family are supported devices that assuming the newer models are supported is intuitive. However, their omission from the list of devices simply comes down to Fitbit not having optimized the experience for that model; some features of the device may function properly, but we don't have an acceptable level of confidence that ALL features will work as advertised (you can select one of the phones from the list and see which features work consistently). Once we have such confidence, you can rest assured that we'll add to the list!

We hear you, and are consistently working on expanding that list of devices. Keep checking back with us to see if there's an update.

I have no idea whether it's coincidence or cause/effect--and I'm kind of afraid to say anything, actually. But after getting both a Fitbit app update and a phone firmware update yesterday, my devices are staying paired and have worked together for 24 hours without incident. <fingers crossed>

I have recently upgraded my phone from the iPhone 6 to the Samsung galaxy s7 edge and I now can't answer pick up or reject a call from the blaze. I used to see a red and green phone symbol on the blaze with the iPhone but I don't see that with the galaxy

Turn off blue tooth and unpair....turn notifications off on your phone. then turn your bluetooth back on and pair it to blaze classic and turn notifications back on

Fizzie94 Any enhancement scheduled to improve more notifications for iOS on Blaze. Such as WhatsApp or other 3rd party apps? Thanks!

I totally agree. I hate having 2 watches and I'm debating what is more important my fitbit or smartwatch. It would be nice to have more notifications so I could get rid of the smartwatch. Also, I find it odd that it doesn't give fitbit notifications. LoL

Weird, I have had no issues for my 4 weeks so far....until today.  Nothing is working.  I have unpaired, uninstalled the app, dropped it from bluetooth. Reinstalled app, repaied the tracker with teh 4 digit code, setup notifications.......and no calls or texts are coming through on my Blaze?

I have also turned on the "always connected" feature and nothing is working right now.  Is it possible there is a problem on Fitbit's end since this worked perfectly with this phone and tracker for 4+ weeks?

Being able to answer/reject a phone call from the Blaze is a feature reserved for iOS and not supported for Android.

Because you have an Android phone, not an iPhone.

I have noticed that there is an option to choose which app I want to select for my text notifications on the Android.  It gives the option of Hangouts, Messages and Messages+, however if I choose Messages+ it does not show the text content only that I have received 1 new message.  Is this something that can be fixed or will be fixed in the near future?

Best Answer

Correct as noted throughout this thread Message Plus is not able to send the content. Basically the way the message looks when it pops up on the lock screen is what you will see what n the Blaze.

My phone and Blaze stopped syncing last evening also. I finally called support and we tried all the usual troubleshooting techniques with no success. We finally got it to sync with Fitbit.com by using the computer. I had to put Blaze in charging box, plug that into the computer, and sync. Success! But my question is "Does this mean I can only use my computer now when I want to sync? This is okay if I am near the computer, but useless if I want to check status of calories in/out on my phone during the day when I am not near a computer. I was told by support that I should have checked compatibility with my phone prior to purchase. I read the promotional materials quite a bit prior to purchase and never saw this list or warning. This is becoming beyond annoying!

I have the samsung galaxy s6 edge and I have the red and green phones on my fitbit to reject...turn of all notifications and unpair your phone to the fitbit and shut off the bluetooth...Start by turning on the bluetooth then pair it if blaze classic comes up use that then turn on all of your notifications again...This is how I got mine to work

Interesting. This is the first reference I've seen (not that I've read every thread/post) with an Android device being able to use the call answer/reject feature. Lucky you!
