Blaze Step Count severely lacking on treadmill.

Hello All,

I've had my Blaze for a long while now, and have never had an issue with it. It's always been very accurate, and never had any glitches.

I recently joined a gym, and the last two days I was on a treadmill my blaze step count is less than half of what the treadmill says.

yesterday I did 8 miles on the treadmill, and the blaze only registered approximately 3500 steps. Today I did 6 miles, and the blaze only counted approximately 2400 steps.

using the treadmill I don't hold onto anything, I walk like I always do on pavement or wherever else and I just don't know what is going on.

Any any help would be appreciated.

If it's a treadmill at the gym, I wonder if it's not calibrated? That would certainly explain the discrepancy.

Are you using a different treadmill each time? I would give several of them a try and see what mileage you get.

How much time does it take you to walk 8 miles outdoors? Were you on the treadmill for a similar amount of time?

Are you using the treadmill option on the Blaze.  I use that option in the gym & when walking outside I use the walk option.

When it comes to counting steps on a treadmill there is no calibration needed. A step is a step, the difference is that the body is stationary while the ground moves past you, oppose to you moving past the ground.

The treadmill vs walk mode are the same with the exception of GPS.

Do a simple test @BATTERY Legion stand up, look at the step count, no swing your arm foreard/backwards 20 times. Did the steps increase that many on the tracker? It did for me.

As for calibration that would be your stride so that the distance agrees.

I have found that if I pop my blaze out of the watch band and tuck in it my bra that the step and distance tracking is far more accurate on the treadmill.  It's still off a little but only by a couple hundred steps and I've notice that sometime bumps in the road will count as steps when I'm driving so the difference washes out in the end.

Welcome to the Forums @BatteryLegion@macgurlnet@J-flex@Rich_Laue and @starshinep thanks for stopping by.

Fitbit Blaze do not count the elevation gains simulated from a StairMaster, inclined treadmill, or other stationary exercise equipment. Your tracker uses changes in barometric pressure to detect elevation change, and therefore requires that you physically change elevation in order to properly record your information.

I recommend selecting the activity "Treadmill" directly from your Blaze, if you don't have this option, you can add it by doing the following from your Fitbit app:

  1. Tap the Blaze icon
  2. Slide down and tap Exercise Shortcuts
  3. Tap the "+" icon
  4. Select the exercises you want to have
  5. Tap Add to Blaze
  6. Sync

I hope this helps, let me know the outcome. Woman Wink
