Blaze charging and initial firmware update taking forever

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Just got my Blaze.  Couldn't figure out how to get it connected to the charger because of the lack of documentation.  I'm not sure I'm digging the requirement to remove the face from the band every time I need to charge it.

I did manage to add it to the fitbit app on my phone and immediately I'm waiting over 30 minutes for a "10 minute" firmware update.  It's 25% done now, so I have that going for me.

Anyone else verify that their update took so long?  Just wanting to ensure whether or not the problem might be with my phone.

Thanks!

i just got my blaze today and after 2 hours finally got it to do the firmware update it required before it would even work. After trying 8 or 9 times to get it to work it would just go 1/4 of the way. i tried turning off the phone turning it back on, turning the blutooth on and off, pairing it over and over again. I chatted online with fitbit and they said that my phone the Sony Xperia Ultra XA was not a supported device even though it has android. I said thanks alot.......... researched it a little more. i went in and turned off anyother thing that was connected by blutooth and tried again. it finally worked. Took the whole 10 min. at least but it did finally work and it is syncing. Looks to be working with my phone that has Marshmallow 6 installed as the operating system. Still checking the Blaze to see if it is accurate or not. Plan on using another few day to see results. Can't believe it took me 2 hours to set up thou. They really need to work on this.. Almost shoved it in the box and took it back. Also they should include a dongle with this if that is what they initially want you to use. When installing on computer that is the only way it might let you. Won't work connecting it with the charger.

I noticed that if I force my phone to stay awake, the progress bar crawls along at a snail's pace, but it moves. Sadly the devs didn't think to allow you to download the firmware to your phone and push it faster to the Blaze. It's quite a waste of time, but it should finish faster if you keep your phone awake and with the app running at the progress screen.

I literally have my Blaze sitting right up against my phone, and I think it uses NFC to communicate, as it doesn't appear in my bluetooth list. My Blaze says it's only 50% complete, but my app says it's about 90% now.

It's now up and running. Just remove the face from the frame, and put it on the screen of your phone to make it go faster.

@ManWithNoBrows it uses bluetooth, the new trackers do not have NFC which was only used to tell the phone to open the fitbit app.

The app itself does not need to pair the tracker to you phones Bluetooth unless the notifacation is turned on.

I usually start yhe update to the firmware and move the app to the background, and have setup and updated a tracker wirhin 7 minutes

At least I know I'm not the only one who's give the update 30 minutes only to have it appear to be about 25-30% complete.  It also helps to know that I'm not the only person who would have appreciated instructions.  I kept thinking I had dropped or lost the instructions even though I unboxed everything without moving from the office.  This is my second go round with Fitbit.  After months of trying to get the crappy Charge HR to sync (never happened even with calls to customer service) or even show the correct time,  I could finally justify tossing it because the band was bubbling up and couldn't be replaced.  Then my other half, who loves his Fitbit dumps this Blaze in my lap.  Decent sized box, expensive magnetic close box within the textbook sized box, no instructions, just go to setup and a screen message that it might take 10 minutes to update.  After about 30 minutes, I'm giving up (time, like manuals, must be fluid in Fitbit land).   I'm not sure why Fitbit believes no one wants official instructions on paper without having to page down and/or link to 20 other sites.

3rd fitbit device ( and with these problems it WILL be the last unless they are sorted) , and every update is still the same. It really is time the devs worked on getting the updates working rather can new dashboards and minor updates to the app. My Blaze has been sat for 90 minutes updating, 2 inches away from my phone. its about 33% of the way through - 10 minutes Ha.

What is the problem with this? my 15Mb uplink, the link between the phone and  Blaze. could it be the 286 that Fitbit seem to use as a fileserver ?

It has been suggested, many times, Whenever possible, download the update to the connected device before attempting to perform the update, then there is only one thing in the way !

Well its sorted. Turned bluetooth off on my phone ( I had to go out and i needed both a useable watch and a phone). when I thought i had another hour spare, turned bluetooth back on and fired up the app. Lo and behold 12 minutes  ( still not 10 mind ! ) later, it had updated.

I am completely fedup with this, how in the earth one can setup this firmware. Trying since last 2 hours with no success.

It says, hold tight... this can take blah blah and it fails again. I cant hold tight anymore.

With the heavy pricing if they can't take care of this small issue which everyone is having, it makes me complete nervous. I gonna give another update after if I get success in firmware setup.

May i ask what device your using to set up the tracker?

At what step it fails, and any error messages that you are receiving?

Hello, I had tried it with

Le Eco Max 2 phone and was using Fitbit Charger 2

After multiple restarts and spending almost 4 hours I had the success. After that things have been smooth. However I still believe something must be done for this and it seems everyone says it is a problem in the initial setup.

Thank you

I solved it guys. You have to put some pressure on the fitbit while it's on the charging dock. Likelyhood is the entire thing is loose.

So I just lifted the charging lock and I put my phone on top to ensure the whole charging points were aligned and in contact. It worked! I updated the fit bit right after.

@patiperfect I would cancil the update by killing the FItbit app then restart the update.
