This is solved with these notes but here are a few tips to ease frustration and get things going.

1. Don't use your computer to charge the phone initially. It's much easier if you are using a USB certified plug in an outlet.

2. Don't expect to see the battery icon. The battery has to charge and the upgrade needs to finish before you will see the battery. If the fitbit.com/setup and fitbit icon is flashing it is probably charging.

3. Set up your device on your phone first. When it starts to do the update, if you have your blaze plugged in and the phone on the update screen, it will automatically update when the blaze is charged enough.

4. After it's charged enough and the update is completed, you should see the battery icon on the blaze. Then you can just watch for it to fill up. Takes about 2 hours.

Good luck! This was a very frustrating experience.

I just received my Special Edition Blaze today. Been without a tracker for over a week. So, I was excited to get to using my Blaze. Started the set-up, but the battery was low. I followed instructions in pluggin in the USB of the battery cradle, lined up the pins, No luck with batter icon showing, the only display I see is fitbit.com/setup with fitbit icon, I'm ready to ship the blaze back, Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you.

Ok, here's what you need to do. Set up the Blaze using your phone up to the point where it wants you to do the update. Plug your new Blaze into the charger using a USB wall outlet. You won't see a battery icon but if it's flashing (the logo and the Fitbit.com/setup) it's charging. Set your charging blaze right next to your phone. Now go to the update screen and when there's enough battery in the blaze the update will start and you will see a progress bar on your photo and the blaze.

When the blaze is charged enough to accept the update, the update will complete loading. After the update loads, you will see the battery icon, the blaze will finish charging and then you can finish the set up.

I did this with two different blazes that looked broken and it worked on both.

Good luck.

Hi there guys! Great to see you in the Community Forums!

@Dandean @BobRo @LatinMuse, as @AlieAnnie mentions on her post, you will not see a battery indicator when you're charging your tracker for the first time and you haven't set it up. I'd recommend putting it to charge for about an hour even if you don't see anything on the display and then, proceed to set it up.

For this, go to the Account section at the top right corner on the Fitbit app and select the option that says "Set up a new device". Follow the on-screen instructions and once you're done, your tracker should be syncing without a problem.

@rchriswright06, It's great to hear that you were able to get your Blaze to work with the suggestions that you found here!

Anything else you guys may need, let us know!

Blaze not charging.  Still havent completed the setup process.  Trying to pair the iphone with the blaze and tells me I need to charge.  I place it in the charger, yes the correct way, it doesn't show that its charging and the pairing will not complete until the blaze is charged

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @blacre! 🙂

I'd say, leave your tracker to charge for about an hour even if it doesn't show that it's charging. As I explained above, when it's a brand new Blaze, it will not show that it's charging.

After that, follow the setup process. For this, go to the Account section at the top right corner on the Fitbit app and select the option that says "Set up a new device". Follow the on-screen instructions and once you're done, your tracker should be syncing without a problem.

Let me know if you need more help!

Hey RChrisWright,

I do not think you are doing anything wrong.  There are MANY reports of this same issue.  I returned mine yesterday, and will be getting a Garmin instead.  Even Best Buy said a lot more FItbits are returned, compared to Garmin.

How basic is charging a device, I mean, there cannot be this many people having the same problem, unless there is some type of defect.

Also, until it is complete with the set-up, the battery icon will not show.  Guess it was too much to code for their programming department...

I just got my blaze today and got to the set up poi t where it asks me to enter in the number on my screen. Then it tells me the battery is too low and to charge. When I put it in the charger there is no battery that shows up showing it is charging. Is this normal? When I plug it into my computer my computer notify me that there is something in the USB, is the device actually charging and not set up ?

The battery indicator will not show until after setup completes. Try it again, even while charging, should work.

Try a wall charger, like for your cell phone. Several people had good luck charging that way. Hope it works!

Yes - if you follow my post from last week, even though you don't get the battery icon it's charging. Once the update completes you will see the battery icon and can fully charge.

Good luck.
