Blaze notifications not working properly

I am having the hardest time receiving texts while my phone is on silent. It is not on "do not disturb." Is there any solution on this? It is very frustrating having my phone vibrate/ring then have my fitbit go off. Id rather have my phone on silent. Please help!

It's great to see you around @SReiter and weird to hear about this inconvenience. Could you please tell me which mobile device you have so I can provide you the correct troubleshoot for it? In the meantime, please check if your phone is a compatible mobile device.

Hope to hear from you soon. Woman Happy

Hello,

The phone I have is the LG V20. All of the notifications work while my phone is on ring or vibrate, but I would really like it to work while its on silent.

Thank you,

Thanks for the information @SReiterLG V20 is not a compatible mobile device and that might cause some inconveniences with your phone connecting with your Blaze. You can try @MarreFitbit's instructions in the My tracker isn't receiving notifications (Android Fitbit app) post to see if this works.

Let me know how it goes. Woman Happy

Thank you for this information.

When will the V20 be a compatible mobile device?

Hello @SReiter, if your saying that you receive notifacations when your phone is not on solent, then your phone seems to be compatable.

As for receiving notifacations when your phone is on silent, this is not up to Fitbit, but is controlled by the phone. If the phone diesnt send the notifacation then Fitbit will not be able to receive it, then forward it on.

Some phones do this, and some don't.

I am having the same problem with my Samsung S5.

Until the last update all my notifications were coming through to the Blaze while I had my phone in SILENT (not vibrate and not ring). This is NOT a "Do Not Disturb" state as Android has a separate setting for that. Silent is just a ringer state. All my notifications still light up the phone screen, just not ring or vibrate.

Now I must have the phone in vibrate or ring to have notifications on my Blaze.

By what rediculously disturbed thinking did Fitbit decide Silent is Do Not Disturb ?

Fitbit doesn't decide, Fitbit simply passes on the wanted notifications that it has intercepted. If the phone doesn't send a notification. there is nothing for Fitbit to intercept .

I'm not sure about your S5 @KLeBlazeS5 but on my old Galaxy S5 turning vibration off and the sound off also triggered my phone to switch on the DND mode. This also happens with the Galaxy S8.

What I am saying is that the app has been changed in the way it interprets DND @Rich_Laue.

Fitbit had to do something in the last update to change the way the app interprets what the phone is doing. Untill this I could have my phone on silent with no ringer and no vibration and all notifications came through to the Blaze.

As I mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a separate setting for DND and when I check it, it is off when the ring and vibrate are off so it is not in DND mode.

It makes no sense at all to have the Blaze notify you when the phone either rings or vibrates to notify you in the first instance...apart from maybe highlighting how slow the app is to pass on notifications.

I really wish there was a way to backstep an update like you can in Windows so I can have my Blaze working the way it was and should.

All I'm saying is what you describe as now happenning is exactly what has been happening on my S3, S5, and S8 for the last 5 years. Turning the vibration and Volume off has always put my android phones into its SMS mode. I started with Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich.

This actually makes sense, if the user doesn't want to feel vibrations or doesn't want to hear notifications. To me the phone is now in its DND mode.

So if turning off the vibration and ringer you assume the user is effectively putting the phone into DND mode, why then does the Android system have a separate setting for it ?

I would like a system developer to chime in here to explain why Fitbit didn't access the DND setting of the Android system for this function ?

I'm lost here if the phone is in its DND mode and the app tgatsendsthout the notification honors this mode and tgerefore stays quiet. How will the Fitbit app intercept a notification that is never sent.

As for the way the Android system works, you might want to post on dev.android.com.

You may also contact Fitbit if you would like their opinion .

By turning the volume all the way down on my Android phone it puts the ringer in silent mode without going into DND. That means the notifications still show up on the phone, but no sound or vibration happens.

Until recently the notifications would still go to my Blaze and now they don't anymore. It's very frustrating.

I'm sorry, I don't really understand your question.

What I know is that with my phone on silent (not dnd) notifications still pop up visually and, until the most recent update, popped up just fine on my Blaze.

They stopped coming through with the update.

They come through again now that I have it on vibrate, but having it on vibrate instead of silent is inconvenient and annoying.

Hi @AlejandraFitbit.

I have a Blaze watch which has been working perfectly with my One Plus 5 smartphone. Since a recent system update to Android Oreo yesterday(8.1.0) I can no longer get notifications from my phone on to the Blaze.

The Fitbit app was working fine and syncs to my Blaze regularly prior to update, but now it always shows up error on my slider screen saying "Fit bit cannot forward Android notifications to your tracker. Restart your phone to continue getting notifications on your tracker".

I have restarted the phone more times than I can count, I have reset the Blaze many times, I have switched on and off notifications in both the Fitbit app settings and my phone settings. I know I'm using the latest version of the Fitbit app, but now I can't think of anything else to try. I have also gone through the Help Article of the site and tried every step mentioned out there but still its not working.

Please suggest!!

@brdwyjenn

This is the same as my previous complaint.

It seems the FitBit programmers have determined that we must want to not be disturbed if our ringers are off and there is no vibration on, in otherwords in silent mode.

However we still get notifications on our phones when these settings are in effect.

Why would we want to have our FitBits notify us when our phones will either be ringing or vibrating to tell us the same thing ???

SILENT IS NOT, I REPEAT, NOT "Do Not Disturb" MODE.

FitBit engineers, please put this back the way it was before the last update.

On my phone, Galaxy 8, when the volume is down and vibration turned off, my phone goes into its DND mode and the phone will not send notifications to the lock screen.

If notifications do not go to the lock screen there will not be any notifications that Fitbit can intercept.

You've mentioned this a number of times, but for many of us commenting that is not the case.

I can put my phone on silent without going into DND, and I still get pop up notifications on my phone. Those used to be forwarded to my Blaze and no longer are. That is the issue we are discussing.
