Inaccurate distance and steps

My Blaze has never given me accurate steps. I go for a 2 mile run and it consistently tracks .4 mile and less than 2,000 steps. I have tried adjusting stride length but nothing seems to work. Beginning to think something might be wrong with my tracker.

Are you carrying something in the hand where the fit-bit is? As it will not count steps if you are.
