Hi, @AlexBlazeAB7, the Fitbit app counts the calories your body burns just staying alive -- keeping your respiration, circulation, digestion, even thinking burns calories.  These are called "BMR" (basal metabolic rate) calories and for many people are the majority of calories burned in the day.  The number is reset to 0 at midnight, so you will always show some calories burned when you wake up in the morning.

You will see these calories burned whether or not you are even wearing youf Fitbit, but once you are wearing it, and getting active, you will also get calorie "credit" from what you burn through activity.

If you are a particularly active sleeper you may also show some "steps" in the morning.  This will be from moving around in bed at night.  This can be an extra indicator of how restful your sleep was.  Usually the number of these false steps is a very small percentage of an active day.  For example, 100 steps is only 1% of a 10,000 step day -- well within the margin of error (Fitbit step counters aim to be 95% accurate.

I hope this helps!  Welcome to the Community.

Mine was undercounting the last few days. Resting I was only burning 1cal per 15 min when normally I'm about 13cal per 15 min resting. Looks like it corrected itself around 4:30am my local time.

Hi, @AlexBlazeAB7, you will continue to burn calories all day, just staying alive.  Fitbit calculates these calories based on your profile information: gender, age, height, weight.

For example, a 6 ft tall man age 30 and weighing 200 lbs is calculated to burn more than 2000 calories a day even if he were in a coma!

I do not know any details about you, but dependingon these facts, and depending on what time it is as you write. 1300 calories could easily be correct.

Just google bmr calorie calculator to check.

@AlexBlazeAB7 I think @Julia_G has described tje calorie counting adequately for @Jo80

Many people are not comfortable giving personal info in a public forum.

@AlexBlazeAB7, yes, as I mentioned above, these calories will be counted whether or not you wear your Fitbit.  They are based on your profile information (gender, age, height, weight).  They are the calories your body burns just staying alive.  You burn these calories even if you are totally inactive (even in a coma!)

If you wear your Blaze it will show additional calories you burn from activity.

As I suggested above, try googling BMR calculator.  It will confirm approximately how many calories you should see in 24 hours without any activity at all.
